Having a lid is probably safer, yes. Especially if it`s sat on the floor.

also is megazorb a good bedding for hamsters i know it i safe but i dont know how good it is in use also i have a spare rabbit cage that i could mesh and it would be 495 square inches of floor space

Megazorb is safe but really dusty, it has an odd smell too! I think Fitch or hemp are about the best substrates.
Not sure how good a rabbit cage would be, you'd need very small mesh if you go for a robo & they do like to burrow so you need a fairly deep base for substrate, if the sides are mostly mesh a lot would fall out!

The issue I have with meshing is that the robo or other hamster may try to climb the mesh or bars in a large cage and I wouldn`t be happy with the safety aspect. A tank-style cage eliminates all of those worries. x

I have no experience with Chinese and only got my first robo yesterday, but have done research since 2014 summer, Chinese apparently have a higher risk of diabetes but with robos the chance is still there. So far cookie seems very very cute and active
