I'm letting the poor guy keep his stash but I have decided to clear it out regularly. After the clear out I gave him a whole bunch of dry food and treats which he pouched and then toddled off to remake his stash (I loved watching him do this - so cute). I don't mind the stash under the bed because I only give him dried food/treats during playtime so there are no veggies etc going moldy and secondly because I know where his stash is and can get to it. If I discouraged him he might do it somewhere else I can't get to. Plus it seems to make him happy . It was really funny watching him whiz around under the bed trying to figure out what happened to it though! He only started making a stash after his Great Escape into the wall and I still feel that the only reason he came back was because he knew there was food in the storage tub (which is where my husband caught him). I figure I keep his stash going so I have the perfect place to catch him should he ever go out adventuring again (I bloody hope not though I don't think my nerves could take it ).

Re: The Radiator Siege
It's always funny watching them in anything they do. You can't help but smile.
I think him having his secret stash and you letting him have it will hopefully keep him occupied and forget about the radiator and wall.

I have to agree with you Hetty, there seems to be something on the horizon. I was hoping that my suspicions regarding Spike's involvement in the HRN were wrong but the evidence is mounting. He escaped three times when he first came home and was in his temporary bin cage, I believe those were his first training exercises and when he was first recruited. It saddens me that they would recruit at such a young age, but I must admit he is the perfect candidate and it would explain his extreme fitness routine. I suspect the Great Wall Adventure was his first real mission which then went seriously wrong during a supply raid. I have walked unexpectedly into the room several times now to find him pretending he's only out of his nest for a potty break. He is also acting especially endearing which I believe this is an attempt to lull me into a false sense of security. It is my belief that due to the setback of his first mission the HRN has established the need for further training and that he is now using play time as practice for future missions. His focus and determination is apparent - I think I will need to watch him very closely from now on...

Re: The Radiator Siege
As of this morning Spike still shows no sign of abandoning his seige
Apparently I also wasn't paying close enough attention because this is what I found during playtime this morning:
Food Raid_zpssut6hrp4.mp4 Video by RubyRose | Photobucket
It's a short clip because as funny as it was I also wanted to get him out of there - I think he's eaten a weeks quota of food

Re: The Radiator Siege
Our hams are so.similar, rubyDG! Willow's siege is the underneath of a completely inaccessible and heavy bookcase where she is determined to build a new home. After a nerve-racking 24 hours last week when she absolutely refused to come out, she has been BANNED from free-ranging in the living room altogether. A friend of mine came round and between us we emptied the bookcase and gently tipped it forward, and there she was peering cheekily out with her cheery 'hello, its you!' face on. She was so dehydrated, silly ham and she had accumulated a massive store of food she had snaffled from her cage in the night. She didn't make too much fuss being put back into her cage, but the next evening she filled up her pouches again to bursting point and was chewing her bars like mad in the direction of the bookcase. Needless to say she got put in the bath, where to give her credit she eventually deposited her hoard in her favourite plant pot and fell asleep on me. Bless her.

Ooof! sounds like she put you through the ringer! Spike did the same straight after he went wall cavity spelunking - stuffed his pouches to bursting and then got upset that we wouldn't let him out the cage!! I get the feeling that they think we're the odd ones for not letting them use a perfectly good space to make a nest

Re: The Radiator Siege
That pose is undeniable the epitome of determination!
The splayed legs, gripping paws and tensed up hammy: Spike is not going to give up this siege with out a substantial fight I think!!!
You must be going through some load of blanket/towels to keep this little besieging monster at bay!
