Deep down, our little furries know that whatever they do, we as owners won't be angry with them for long.
They ooze loads of charm and cuteness.
Hetty - Basil's antics would've given me a heart attack!

Our fluff bears do seem to like to send us loopers!! I suppose they're insatiable curious....holes, cracks and tunnels prove utterly irresistible to them, plus they have that uncanny ability to squidge and smoosh themselves into the most peculiar of places....
I could almost hear what they think: Food, have it, nest, have it....toys, chewed them.....bored....oooooohhh....a crack! Can I get my head in?......squidge squidge squidge......I'm IN!!! Adventure time!!!!

Despite Basils radiator clambering, epic carpet destruction ,book ripping and pillow burrowing,he was a sweetie. Always a little gentleman, looking for a cuddle. I was always, even in work, wondering what the wee fella was up to! The vent was a ''lattice'' type, so I could see him behind the lattice grille. I had scramble to get a tiny screw-driver, chair and set about freeing him. He was more dust bunny than hamster when I finally nabbed him with a peanut-butter dipped mealy worm.

Heeee! I think you're right on the money about how they think! Basil sounds like quite a character . I can almost see him being pulled out the vent going "What?! But I was having fun!"

I never understood and have often pondered on why Basil had a vendetta against this particular carpet.....I also had to explain to my landlord what was all the damage.
Has Spike turned on his back yet during his rampages? All the better for the ultimate gnawing position and scaring you!

He's only flipped on his back once when I startled him by accident - I felt so bad but he got plenty treats out of me from it so I have my suspicions ....
Otherwise he does this scrabbling twisting thing when going for the carpet, he really puts his back into it. Whenever he gets past the cardboard defenses and I remove him he bruxes very angrily at me. I swear I feel like I'm being scolded!

Oh yes! I got that too; Basil would crouch utter still and then vibrate
intensely, whilst bruxing. Really like a guinea pig when they rumble strut....
Never gotten this ''scolding'' off either Lola or Daisy.....

Do we need to alert Ziggy and Pook, Esq.? This is a gross violation of hammy freedom rights.

Cutting off the supply portal will get you into deep droppings.....

They're very good at making us feel awful when we stop them doing very naughty things, even if they know themselves that we do these things to prevent them from hurting themselves.
They like to push our buttons!

Even though he pushes my buttons I still think his antics are adorable (probably why he never takes me seriously). Despite me thwarting his attempts to gain access to the supply portal (thanks for the heads up Skeekers!) he has still managed to recreate his stash under the bed. He was really unimpressed that his last stash mysteriously disappeared...

How sweet is that remaking his food stash.
You could let him keep it, after you've put him in his cage for the night, you could lift it up and put it back again before he ventures out again?
