R.I.P Bean
I haven't posted on here in almost a year I think and that is because on the 10th august 2014 Bean passed away and broke my heart I loved/love that little guy so much he was always there when I was having a bad day and watching him run around would make me happy. But on the 10th august I went to clean out his cage and realised he'd gone over the rainbow bridge. I hadn't heard him making much noise a couple a days before except for him drinking and I knew he was ok but I didn't see him for a couple of days when I should have checked on him everyday and I hate myself for not checking on him the day before I have learnt from my mistakes. I just logged back on here for the first time since and discovered all these pictures of him and now i'm sat here crying because I wish he was here with me right now. I'm really conflicted on whether I should get another Syrian hamster because I feel like no other hamster with be like him, he was inquisitive and a nice happy hamster and I was very lucky to have him. I remember the day I got that little cheeky one and I went to the male Syrian cage and all the others where asleep but he was up and exploring and when the lady opened up the tank for me to see the he was up on his hind legs sniffing and being cheeky and immediately I said I wanted him I miss him but I really want another hamster but I guess I just want him can someone please help me?

It's always heartbreaking when you lose a hamster. You gave Bean a very loving and wonderful life. The fact you didn't check on him one day isn't your fault he died, so please don't blame yourself.
6 months have passed and I think it's time you got another hamster. Remember, all hammies are different with different personalities. I can't guarantee your next hamster is going to be anything like Bean. It's up to you to go and pick another hamster. I know you have plenty love to give.
Good luck xx

Hiya BeantheHammie - its heartrending when we lose a beautiful furry little baby. Little Bean would not want you to be sad. He would love you to go rescue another little one on whom you can shower all the love you have. That does not mean you will love little Bean any less but just that your heart grows even bigger to love another little ham. Take care and lots of hugs to you. We understand your pain, and every little hammy on HC is our hammy too. Play well at the bridge little fluff xxx

It's so hard to lose our hams & it does take a long while to get over it, I can really understand how you feel, you're not alone with those feelings.
We never replace the hamsters we have, each one is so very different so when we do get a new one even though we may still be missing a lost friend & wishing them back the new personality soon captures our hearts in it's own special way.
I've found that having a new baby to care for not only helps to distract me from the heartbreak of losing one but also helps me to focus on all the happy memories I have of the ones that went before, I hope it can work that way for you too.
Bean had a lovely life with you & it would be nice to think that there's another little ham out there just waiting for a forever home that you could take care of & come to love.
Play well at the bridge little Bean.

Thank you for that I think I really needed to here from other people that have had and lost hams because all of my friends didn't understand they'd just say its only a hamster which made me angry because he wasn't but luckily everyone on here understands and my dad even shed a tear when bean past because he loved him too, thank you for your lovely comment xxx

Re: R.I.P Bean
I've found getting another hamster helped me. You never forget your hamsters, each hamster is different.
You'll find that some people don't understand why you're grieving for a hamster but, until they ever have one of their own they won't understand.
This forum is great for that, we know exactly how you feel and it's perfectly fine to cry.
Bless your dad for shedding a tear. They might be small but they have a big impact on our lifes.

Re: R.I.P Bean
Hello Beanthehammie. I've had hamsters and gerbils for over 50 years. It never is easy to lose my furries, and some are harder than others. But none of them ever take another hammy or gerbils place. Each creates his or her own space in my heart and each is special in their own ways. Don't expect a new hammy to be like Bean. It can't happen. The new hammy will be it own self and you will love it for all kinds of reasons other than those you loved Bean for. Although it is difficult to lose them I would never stop having them. I love the little fuzzies! Also, think about this. Bean has shown you just how wonderful his fellow hammies are. After all his effort, how can you not bring another one home? Bean would approve.
