Default I thought she was dead

I woke up this morning, and the same as every morning went to check on my furry friend who is next to my bed. I called her name.. to my confusion she didn't poke her head out of her house like she usually does. I opened her cage and ruffled her substrate which usually gets her to come say hello when she's super sleepy.. nothing.. she wasn't in her house. I checked both her other nests she's made.. nothing.

I checked everywhere in her cage.. Then I remembered her tubes.. I found her.. she was in the corner of one of her tubes.. bent in half, mouth open and motionless. I tried to stay calm, and tapped the tube to try and wake her hoping she was sleeping. No movement.

At this point I felt the tears welling up, and I found myself shouting " NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO " at 6am .. while trying to release the tubes. I was shaking to much so wasn't moving them much at all. After a few seconds of shouting.. Pikachu suddenly sprung to life.. fell down the tube and sat looking at me like "MUM. I WAS SLEEPING. WHAT THE HELL MUM."

She has a habit of walking up to her penthouse first thing in the morning when she's half asleep.. I guess this time she didn't make it to the penthouse before crashing. She gave me quite the scare. Silly moo.

Hahaha I couldn't help laughing! I've had some nasty scares. One of my past hams had a habit of crashing out face down in the bedding wherever she happened to be. The first time it happened I reached in and touched her and she flipped on her back screeching. Nearly gave me a heart attack!

I feel the same when one of the robos won't wake up when I call them. They've become too comfortable in their tanks and would sleep through any sound. One time I was calling Louie and he wasn't budging. I opened his tank and picked him up, he wasn't moving. Took him around 5 seconds to wake up AFTER I lifted him! I was so scared! My SO also thought he's dead.

I've been there too, my previous ham got freaked out once and wouldn't move from her tube for like 20 minutes, just enough time for me to convince myself she'd had a stroke. She was fine, it was apparently just her way of telling me I stank of cocker spaniel

I'm sorry, that must have been a terrible scare for you. I'm really glad that she was simply in a deep sleep. Sounds like some cuddles, love and playtime is in order.

Poor you! Horrible, isn't it? Weirdly enough, Hector just did this to me. Even if he doesn't come out when I rustle his bedding he still pokes his nose out but just went down to see them & nothing. For ages. And hardly any of his food was gone. Panic! I had to poke something near his nest (which is under a shelf) in the end. When he did come out he wa super skittish so I obviously disturbed him from a deep sleep. I think he might be sulking cos it was cage cleaning day yesterday. Silly Hector.

What a crazy hammy. I did laugh when I realised she was OK. But, I think we can all relate to it, your heart's in your mouth and you feel the colour drain from your face.
Such a horrible feeling and it feels like everything around you is going in slow motion.
Pikachu falling down the tubes is funny! That's an alarm call she won't want to repeat.
