Question Hamster in nepal

Hi all! I'm 18 yrs old and live in Nepal. Really want a Hamster as a pet, been doing loads of research. Problem is you cannot get Hamsters here as no one keeps them as Pets...
What should I do? I know that Internationally shipping them would be very stressful, but if I did consider it. I would get the Hamster from Delhi and it would be half a days journey! Would this still be a terrible idea?
Please help! Need your expert advice, thank you loads.

It's really sad that you can't get a hamster where you live. I do think the journey would be very stressful for a hamster to be honest. Also I think you need to consider a few other things before you make the decision.
If hamsters aren't kept as pets there then you might have real problems if it ever got ill finding a vet who knew how to treat it.
Would you be able to get all the things that you'd need for a hamster like a good cage, a good brand of food, bedding, suitable toys etc.
I really don't want to put a downer on your plans but I do think there really is a lot to consider.

Welcome to the site Gloria.

Everything Cypher has mentioned I agree with. A lot has changed in hamster care and welfare over the last decade. I've always believed that if you take on the responsibility of a pet, you must be prepared to pay for any vet treatment if needed. The fact you don't get hamsters as pets in Nepal means that vets won't have any knowledge or experience.

I really think you should reconsider your choice of pet.

hamsters do travel quite well with a comfortable bedding and some thing to eat like a dry dog biscuit and some cucumber or carrot for moisture, if it was only 1/2 a day and you were able to keep the hamster out of the sun then I feel it would be ok to transport

Thank you Thin Lizzy, Cypher and Polar White!
Your feedback is much appreciated I did some more research and completely agree that I should reconsider my choice of pet...
It is very sad that you don't get Hamsters in my Country and shipping them would take too much of a toll on their health. Although a few Vets in Nepal are certified in Rodent Care its not possible to find the essentials that Hamsters require here.

Thank you again! You're all very wonderful pet owners, I hope I can be just as dedicated to my Pets in the future.

I hope you find a pet. Such a shame you couldn't get a hamster as a pet but, whatever you do get, I know you'll give it a good home.
