Aww, try not to be so hard on yourself. A loud noise will startle a hamster, but pikachu will forgive you soon enough. My Margo is fully tamed, but she had a bit of a fright just a few night ago, when I accidentally dropped a book on the mesh lid of her tank. It made a big racket and she ran and hid for a couple hours. When she came out she got an extra yogurt drop for her ordeal, but she was still as friendly as ever x3

It happens to the best of us, but I promise Pikachu won't hate you because of it.

Thin Lizzy:

Thank you so much! I'm so scared of being a bad owner that I keep thinking myself in to oblivion! I do need to chill out, I guess it's just because he's so perfect I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if he ended up hating me.

I knew I wanted a hamster called Pikachu, I never thought P@H would have any but the usual brown and white ones they have at the one near me. I really wanted a little boy with golden fur and black tipped ears. When I walked in, I had butterflies with excitement. Then I saw him, on his own. The only Syrian on display. A little fluffball with golden fur and black tipped ears, when the shop assistant discovered his gender.. and said he was a boy. I couldn't believe it! It was honestly crazy how well everything fit together that day! I think that's made me feel even more under pressure to do right by him!

itswendy:

Thank you for sharing your experience, it makes me feel much calmer knowing that even little skittish buddies can be cuddlers!

I wont give up for sure, your Hammy sounds like a right character and super cute!

NiceCrocs:

Thank you for sharing, it's lovely to hear how forgiving they are! And how even the older ones can be startled to the point they hide! I just felt so bad when he ran the the corner, burried in to his bedding and sat there shaking! He was fine this morning thankfully, came right up to the cage!

I see what people mean about how a hamster changes outside of their cage though, when he was in his ball he was so much more confident! I guess that's him saying.. in my territory I;m the boss.

There's no chance of him hating you!
I love reading about how you knew what you would name him and type.
The both of you were destined to be.
Every hamster I've had, when I first saw them I knew he/she was the one.

I doubt that Ziggy feels any remorse on the few times he has managed to knock out the front panel on his cage, which crashes to the floor, occasionally knocking over other things as well. At five thirty am.

So I get to startle him sometimes too.

Keep the name Pikachu. That makes you Lady Pikachu. Unless you're a guy. In which case you can still be Lady Pikachu, but it may require a bit of explaining sometimes. Not everyone here has a parental relationship to their hams. Mine are roommates. Smaller and stupider than I am perhaps but I certainly ain't no ones Daddy. Only reason Zig and I call Pook the baby and stuff is cuz he's full of beans and a silly kid compared to us older, wiser, more mature critters living here

In my hamster infested world, I just assumed you were the Lady of the Manor. And Pikachu was the hamster.

That's a good point, Pikachu woke me up a few times last week knocking a house over on his platform.. I was not pleased!

And yes, my plan for the name LadyPikachu was mostly because Pikachu was taken, so I thought I'm a Lady and that sounds cute so I'll go with that.. it was only after a few people said 'she' regarding my Pikachu that I realised I should have added an & sign or something!

I think I fret over Pikachu like a Mummy, I didn't think I would be like this with him. I was so laid back about getting him, just pure excitement. Then when I had him physically there.. I had a sudden huge fear of doing wrong! I think it's because of what I said earlier.. how perfect he is and the story of me finding him.

Don't underestimate yourself. We can do plenty of damage being friends, roomates and family, without actually being a parent
