Talking Really happy! Progress with my Pikachu!

It's been a week today since I got my little Pikachu! (My first Hamster!)

Today I did something I've wanted to do since that day, stroked him! He let me stroke him for at least a minute, sitting still and running on his flying saucer. Before today he would zoom away if I touched him by accident, and I mean ZOOM

The first time I touched him a few days ago he did a flip and landed on his back, I felt SO bad, but today he just sniffed me and let me have my fun!

He seemed a bit weary of course, like he liked it but he didn't want to like it? I'm going to keep going slow and steady, it's certainly working! Within the next week I'm going to try introducing his ball! If he goes in, he goes in. If not, I'll try again the next day.

I've left him to do his own thing now, I'm sure it was scary having a big human hand touching him, I don't want to push him too far and him end up hating me! He's in my room anyway, so he still has my smells and my presence around!

Thanks to him becoming more comfortable, I actually managed to snap a good photo!

I give you Pikachu! A male cream/yellow Syrian with black tipped ears (Just like Pikachu of course!) and a face that could make an angel cry happy tears.

So far I've discovered he enjoys; chewing his wooden climbing frame/bridge, eating cucumber, using the ladder and his bars to reach his platform (I guess he likes to mix things up), sniffing my face and kicking all of the bedding away from the corner behind his flying saucer which can be annoying for his owner who doesn't want a stinky corner for him!

Here he is!

Awwww! Adorable and he knows it! hehe....

Same color, I think , as Ziggy.

I found when handling them, that it's best to do whatever you do with certainty and confidence. Sometimes I pet them very, very, very gently, othertimes more like scratching a dog or cat, and much more aggresively. They like both depending on mood. They will sit quite still for a more massage like stroking , scratching ....other times, its the very light touch, petting like you would a baby chick, and they just melt. They pick up our vibes, I think. So if we are uncertain about whether they are uncertain about us petting them, they get a bit antsy. And we get more jumpy. If they don't like something, they'll move away. I do think they really like a bit of a petting and cuddling, but when they want it. So I go by their reaction.

If you don't want a stinky corner, don't pee behind your wheel. In his house, its his rules? LOL.....

Enjoy. It really is a process of forming a relationship with them, and each one is unique and quirky in their own way. And they are always full of suprises, no matter how much time goes by. And no matter how much their surprises throw us off, heh....

When I got Pook home he was about four weeks, and I was still wondering if I accidentally bought a dwarf......

I do think that's true! When I say "Awhh" now he somehow manages to pull and EVEN CUTER face.

And thank you for the tips! I've been a little nervous as he bit me the third day I had him. He didn't mean to do it, I was feeding him a treat and I wasn't watching.. so he thought my finger was more treat! I'm not sure why it's made me feel nervous even though I know it was not him being nasty.. I guess because it hurt and bled so much! I will try different ways of petting tomorrow! I'm glad they like being petted, I love stroking fluffies!

I don't think he has being going to the loo in that corner, as he has a toilet that he uses for wees and poos mostly in the corner of his little house and covers it with tissue.. but I am worried that if he does it has no bedding there to soak it up. I've already learnt not to try and make his cage how I want it though, he taught me that early! Haha!

Thank you, I'm excited to see more of his quirky ways!!

He sure is!

He's about 7 weeks old now, got him at 6 weeks old!

I didn't realise how big Syrians are as I have never had a hamster only ever seen my friends ones when I was like 13 and they'd always be hiding away, so when I bought him I was actually quite surprised.. but also pleased! I was worried about having something tiny!

He was 6 weeks when I bought him, so 7 weeks old now! He seems pretty big to me, but I have never owned a hamster so I've done the typical thinking they're all tiny thing!

I saw a picture of a couple of weeks old syrian for my first time today, almost died from how sweet it was!

Ziggy bit me once, but he wasn't even biting me, since he couldn't see me. He was dragging litter into his wheel nest. I was supplying more tissue. And from his point of view? A wall of tissue kept moving in on him and probably even pushed him. He bit it. And me.

Hard to forget a deep Syrian bite, since its razor sharp, bleeds and goes deep. Feels like it hit bone. It's a vivid memory! Also, its a normal reaction when someone suddenly flinches, to flinch as well, so theres the OMG I you scared me scaring you scaring me .....contagious flinch, ROFL.....one time in seven months, and an accident at that? Impressive beasts for something so tiny. I've had dog bites less memorable...LOL.
