Unhappy Escaped hamster

Hi guys
It was nice to read your comments
My Syrian hamster gone missing in a hole in the dining room floor
I could here him in the wall but not sure how to get him out
If we drill into the wall we must kill him

Please attempt to recapture him! Leave food and water near where he got in and any other holes that he may be able to get into. Some people use bucket traps too to recapture a hammy that's escaped. Keep us posted on developments and hope you get him back soon

My friend lost her hamster and used the bucket trick. She put some hamster food inside a bucket and covered the top with a piece of paper then used books to create stairs going up to it. On day 2 he had been caught. I hope he returns safely back to you.

Hi. Hope the bucket trick works. I read also to put a towel in the bottom of the bucket then the food on top, so he has a soft landing. I shouldn't drill into the wall because you might have to drill an awful lot of wall out to get him. Fingers crossed.

Bucket trap and very smelly yummy food(like canned cat food or Tuna Fish in the bucket. Make sure the sides of the bucket are smooth or he may be able to climb out. If you don't have a bucket try a 66 liter storage bin with a ramp.

hi

just an update, the hamster was in the brick wall, in the cavity, we have not heard him yesterday.
I bought a humane mouse trap and put peanut butter in, we placed that under the floor, and it was closed, so either he tried to get in or the trap just rubbish and closed
what we done is that we put out food under the floor so we can see if he touched it
the whole he gone in is far away from the place he is in at the moment
the worst case we will drill a whole into the brick carefully
but if he moved, he can be anywhere under our house which is massive
we cant put bucket under the flooring as there is not such a big place

I would drill a small hole in the wall carefully around where he is and leave strong smelling food just outside the hole - cheese and peanut butter. Keep all the doors in the room closed. I had to do this for my little hammy who went missing for 3 days. All the best, and please keep us updated. Also could you throw small piece of cucumber where your hammy is - as this will prevent dehydration. xx

You don't need the bucket in the wall/under the floor. The reason for the strong smelling food in the bucket is to cause him to come out the wall and into the bucket which should be sat near the original hole he went into the wall. I have holllow walls and plenty of holes to allow a hamster to gain access into the walls and be able to travel from room to room and floor to floor(I live in a two floor house with a basement floor as well). Believe me they learn the entrance and exit hole just like they do a tubed cage. Chances are good he is having a merry time playing in the wall(great big Habitrail to him). Food is not as important to him as water is at this time. When I have a hamster loose and in the walls I make sure to attach their water bottle near the hole opening so they can come out and get a drink. If he is a wheel lover you might want to load his wheel with kibble bits or corn bits so you will hear a racket if he runs in the wheel. Wodent Wheels or Trixie wheels work best for this trap LOL.

Lastly don't give up on capturing him as I've had two escape and happily live in the House habitrail cage for a month, and have heard many a post of even a longer time loose in a house.
