Thick plexi glass was what my Dad made my old Hamster and gerbil cages out of and yes I believe it is acrylic Plastic and it is clear. The worse my Hamster did with the 1/2 inch thick plexi was to put scratches in it. It's smooth so they had nothing to chew on.

Even excessive wood chewing can cause her teeth harm, and if she can get it started like she has in that photo she could be out of the cage in no time should she start early in the night. Could you not apply a piece of the plexi to the corner behind her house and leave the rest wood? OR is there a way to attach her house to the wall so she can't move it away from the wall to chew it? The only other thing I can think of is thin sheet metal that you would then form around the wood base to make it impossible for her to chew it. Either way you go she can do harm to her teeth even just plain wood.

Did it cause teeth issues when she chewed through the original plastic base? Does it cause harm when they chew those Crocodiles? Plexi/Acrylic Glass is no harder then those Crocs.

Thank you Nancy

I honestly don't think it's at all possible for her to be able to get out of the cage in one night going back to the beginning of this thread and checking the date she first ate a hole in the cage base, we added the wooden liner on exactly the same day, shows it was 12th October last year, today is 6th March, which means it has actually taken her just short of 5 months to get the wood that far The lowest point of the wood was just level with the very uppermost point of the plastic base, which was still protected by the cage bars, so she still couldn't get to the plastic, yet, but it wouldn't have be long which is why I had to reaccess the situation Leaving the wood out failed miserably so I rebuilt it and replaced it I assume it would take her a further 5 months before she gets near the base a second time

I was totally unaware that chewing wood could damage her teeth, I will take a look at the situation again and see if I can tweek it somehow
