Default My darling Maisie has gone !!!!

This week has been absolutely devastating for me after i discovered that Maisie had esaped from her cage on Sunday night. I've put bucket traps in every room to try and lure her into them but their has been no sign I live in such an old flat that i can only think that she has crawled through a hole into the wall or under the floor boards.

I still feel teary when i think about her as she has been the most delightful, friendly little companion to have around. I think I will have to terms with the fact that i might never see her again

I am going to write a memorial for her on the memorial page because although she wasn't with me for long, I loved her dearly and want everyone to know what a special hamster she was.

Just a warning to everyone with a FOLD FLAT TOWER cage to secure the doors as I feel that they just arn't as stiff as other makes. I think she forced it open after wearing down the catch.

On this final note I just want to say thank you to Morag from Babyboos for listening to my tears and being so kind.

Sarah, I’m sorry to hear that your little ham went “A wall”.. I hate to say it but I think most all hamster cages are all made very poorly. One of the most common things I hear about are incidences such as this where the hamster manages to escape because doors and tubes and what have you rant secure enough!

I have to think that not much research is done in the development of these cages because it’s clear that the manufactures of many hamster made cages underestimate the strength and intelligence of the hamster.

I like my bins because I know they are secure because I made them! I wouldn’t give up complete hope, although coming to terms that you my not see the ham again would be a good idea. But don’t stop looking and listening!

I know this must be hard to go through *huggles*

oh god, i am so sorry to hear your little one is missing. there is always hope i would not give up, just be realistic on your chances. i know i couldnt in your position, its amazing how often being realistic means upsetting yourself, but then this is a crule world. just remember it was one made better by maisie, and no matter what the outcome that will always be true.

my thoughts and hugs are with you.

Oh Sarah really I was glad you let me know, I can really appreciate how you feel. Silly hams just don't understand we have them in cages for their own good, not because we are cruel. Don't give up hope as I said to you I have heard of hamsters reappear suddenly after a 3 month absence. Try the sunflower seeds and grapes indicator test, and maybe check out humane traps at the hardware store if you get the chance.

Hope we manage to cheer you up a little tomorrow

Keep an ear out.....when Phoebe went walkabouts we found her by the scratching noises she was making under the floor boards (and the tonnes of rubble she was pushing out of a hole in the ceiling below....she wasn't very subtle).

Pegs, clips or padlocks on doors are a good idea if you have a clever hamster.

Fingers crossed Maisie makes an appearance soon.....like Babyboos said don't give up all hope.
