I recently went out and bought a type of chinchilla sand which was deemed safe for hamsters. And I was wondering if it is safe to leave it in the cage permanently and change it on a regular basis.
As I have heard horror stories about chest infections and other breathing problems in hamsters I would appreciate some advice on whether it is safe to leave it in the cage.
As long as it's chinchilla sand and not dust then you're ok, I use this for all my hams and keep it in permanently. Most of them use it as a toilet so as you said needs to be changed frequently.
I wonder now if I give Toby some will he start using it as a toilet instead of the corner he has already allocated to wee? I was going to add some to the second storey once I add it and move his wheel and toys up there so it could be like a playhouse.
