Exclamation Hamster help!

I've got 2 hamsters. One is 2 years female, other one is 3 months male. They're in different cages. Sometimes they wake up at same times, so after handling one I handle the other without washing my hands. After I'm done handling them that's when I wash my hands! Am I doing something wrong????????

Er... If its not causing the hams to react then I'd not worry too much, but washing your hands between handling them is good practice - then if someone is coming down with something you can't help pass it to the other ham.

Exclamation re: Hamster help!

Hi, if you hamsters are not bothered about it it should be okay, but if they do start to react to the other hamsters smell then in between each hamster wash your hands with unscented hand soap or floral scented soap make sure that you hand soap is either one of these other wise if you hand smell of nice coco butter then your hamster might have a nibble aha! Hope this helped

I don't wash my hands between handling my Syrians (as it would make my Eczema flare up) and it doesn't bother them. I do before handling Beanie because he is already scared and skittish.

Unless it causes you problems, like with Emsy, it's best to wash your hands between handling each hamster purely because of what Kyrill said - it reduces to risk of passing on something from one ham to another.
