Tinky's name (Tinklepaugh) came from a Historical Methods of Psychology class. Tinklepaugh is the last name of a psychologist who studied the expression of frustration and agression in chimps. He was government funded and his tests ran something like this: Using two rooms which were separated by a large glass window, a monkey (who had been on a regulated feeding schedule and had been moved to a latent feeding schedule, i.e. 1 hour past 'normal' feeding time) was shown a handler placing a banana under a box. The monkey was then released to go into the other room and get the banana (or some other tempting fruit). However when the monkey moved the box to get the fruit, they would find not the banana but a piece of lettuce. As you can imagine the monkey was disappointed. Later on when the experiments were repeated with increased latent feeding times the levels of frustration and agression increased. Eventually, they pulled that on one monkey who became so mad he started...um...throwing his droppings around the room.

Basically, I named my hamster after a man who obtained goverment funding to confirm that when monkeys get mad, they throw their droppings. That, and I just really liked the sound of the name 'Tinklepaugh.' :P

Default Poops hit the fan

Sounds a bit like our little ones, though they need no excuse - they just chuck their poops out their enclosures to wind us up

Default hmmm?

thats weird... I thought I posted in here already but I guess not. Well it's not that hard to figure out why I gave Nibbles his name! I did have a little food still on my hands (I knew this) and he had to taste it LOL. But mainly because the first few mornings when he'd be eating his stash of food in his house all I'd hear is "nibble nibble nibble"..... I left it a few days before naming him as I wanted it to fit his character.

Well Bear got his name because he looks just like a bear, Ricochet got her name because she was all over the place (I hope she comes home soon), Whisper got her name because the Fiance says she's as soft as a whisper and it just fit, I adopted Bandit. He was used for breeding and I wanted to give him a nice warm, loving home until he passes on. I hope it's not for a while. He's 2 and a half years.

Default aww

I'm sure Bandit will enjoy the rest of his life!

Regarding Ricochet - do you know anybody with a Dachshund or other scent hound? They can be awefully good at following a scent - its just a thought. If you could "borrow" one for a day and let him / her run around - let him smell the cage or the last place you know Ricochet was. I have a Dachshund and will give her one of my socks to smell briefly and tell her to "find it" while I've hidden the other one. It always amazes me! It may or may not work, just and idea though

The hamster that I took care of was actually named Snowy, but I wanted to call it Snowball, because it was a Long-haired Syrian hamster so it looked like a squished snowball !
