31 Days of May - hamster photos thread
Wasn't April just lovely?
I've decided to begin the May thread with the face that started it all for me...
This is our sweet Flower [now at the Rainbow Bridge] on the night we brought her home, September 30, 2011.
She had been returned to the pet supply store where we found her! The people who originally bought her thought she would "turn normal hamster colors..." [????] and when she didn't, they brought her back!
Neither of us had never had a hamster before (husband is allergic to everything), but we were researching hamsters, reading, etc. and were looking into maybe getting a tank and topper to get everything all set up for a rescue ham - that's why we were in the pet supply store in the first place - and there was a sign on her enclosure, " adopt me."
She was standing there, alone, giving me The Face (I didn't know about The Face then), and I fell instantly in love, which was only strengthened when the employee told us about the idiot thinking she was 'the wrong color,' but I didn't want to get ahead of myself... so I said to my husband, "We should get all set up, and if she's here when we come back in a couple of days, we'll know it was meant to be." He said, "Are you kidding?! She will get snatched up in a second! We are taking her NOW."
She was the color of flour, but we spelled her name Flower after the matriarch on the Animal Planet show Meerkat Manor.
I hope you all enjoy May, and I thank you in advance for letting me share photos with you.

That is such a wonderful photo of Flower. No one could resist her. I'm glad her previous owners didn't want her so she could have a lovely home with you.

First of all, that photo is fantastic. I LOVE Meerkat Manor. I have the series on videotape. I used to tape it every day while I was at work. I was devastated when Flower (The meerkat Mama) died. What a great way to name your Flower . She (Your Flower) was gorgeous!

Re: 31 Days of May - hamster photos thread
I'm so glad she is remembered fondly here. She truly is my heart ham (of course when she came to us I didn't know what a heart ham was). I thought since it's May 2, I'd do a two-part post for today, but don't worry, I'm not going to post three on the 3rd, four on the 4th, etc. These two just sort of go together.
Back when she was still in her tank with a topper, there were all kinds of places to suspend things, and she loved this hanging cube:
Especially when she discovered there was a peanut hidden in there:

OMG! I just put one of those in Ted E. Bear's house early this week! I have to try a nut. He's been hesitant to get in it. Flower looks wonderful looking out of it.

Re: 31 Days of May - hamster photos thread
Last night, her reigning Highness, Carmelita, demanded she be featured immediately, so I hope you all don't mind that I'm throwing chronological order to the wind. After all, what she says, goes.
Here is Carmelita, quality-inspecting an outfit I bought for our new nephew (who she LOVES).
