Default My babies have gone

Yesterday I found little Polly, who was still in with her Mum, dead in the nest. I don't know why she died. Maybe Mum killed her I will never know. Then later I noticed Basil, in his own little cage, wasn't looking well so I took him to the vet and he had to be put out of his suffering. He had wet tail. Maybe it was because he was alone in his cage. Now its just me and Sammy again. Will have to tame her now.

Mum only had the 2 babies. I bought her in a pet shop and 2 weeks later I saw the babies. Think it more than likely that it was a incestuous mating before they got to pet shop. They were so lovely. I know Basil had wet tail but there was no sign of it on little Polly. I think Mum just got fed up and killed her.

I would love to have a dwarf hamster now but I am not buying one from a pet shop again. If anyone knows of a breeder anywhere near Shrewsbury I would be grateful if you would let me know.

hey Roverina,

I am terribly sorry that you lost both the babies - it is hard when they are so young.

As for Sammy, spend some time together and get to know each other, she will love the company.

I'd also advise taming her before you get any dwarfs as they can be harder to tame than a syrian hamster, and it will be good practice, it will also give you time to think about whether you really would like another little one and which breed of dwarf you think would be best for you, whether it be Campbells, Winter Whites or Roborovski. Remember they live together though and it will also give you time to source a good breeder too

Let us know how you get on with taming Sammy.

I'm probably the nearest to you. I'm currently in Cheshire but I'm moving a week sunday to Swindon. We have hamster shows all over the country but your closest is probably Birmingham in December. if you don't mind a trip to Swindon your welcome to come visit my hamstery and play with both the Winter Whites and the Campbells and figure out which one suits you. Failing that I could meet you at a hamster show that is near you

I'm so sorry you lost your little ones. Some of the bugs that can cause diarrhoea/wet tail can be so acute as to cause sudden death, so it may not have been Sammy.

Fingers crossed that she'll settle in with you quickly now and be a cuddlebum before too long, if you have any worries don't hesitate to ask.

Oh Roverina it is so sad but please be assured it is nothing you did. These things happen, and Sammy was very young to have a successful litter. I am so sorry you and your family have had to go through this. Hugs to you all.

I am sorry to hear your sad news. I was getting loads of support from your experiences, and you were really happy with them.
