Default Exercise ball- Too big?

First, is it dangerous for an exercise ball to be too big? I ordered the 10 inch size because that is what was recommended but it looks so huge! It's larger than a basket ball. I have an adult female Syrian, could it be dangerous for her in such a large ball? I'm afraid she'd get to rolling and get hurt. We do have carpet so maybe she wouldn't go too fast.

I know a lot of people use bigger wheels designed for rats, but I find it depends on the ball/brand.
I got a big one free from the pet shop where I work, because it had a small crack in one lid and had been discredited. I was happy to take it because my Fin's a big boy and thought it was perfect, but when I got it out of the packaging I realised that the air slits were really big, obviously to better ventilate for a larger animal. They were big enough that it would be far too easy for him to put a toe, or even a whole foot, through them. I didn't want to run the risk of him hurting or even breaking a foot, so I've never used it.

That would be my only criticism though. I'm guessing not all balls have such wide ventilation gaps, so it's really a case of checking your individual product. :/

I can't see that being a problem as long as you make sure the vent holes aren't going to trap a limb

I didn't think of that. I'll take a look and decide if I should send it back. Thank you!

I agree that it depends upon the make with regard to how the ventilation holes are arranged. I have Syrians that prefer the smaller ball and others that are better in the larger ones as they are not as easy to get up speed in and therefore less likely to be crashed and banged into furniture.

I know there are mixed opinions about the use of balls of either size but IMO it is a choice that, once safety concerns are eliminated, should be left to the individual hamster. Some rush to come out into the ball and love racing about, others are not so bothered, so I let them decide.

I have to check the new ball I bought Ted E. Bear. I was taken aback when I saw how big it was, but the regular size they sell for Syrians really seems to small for him. Look at the difference below. I'm really glad you brought this up, because I never thought about the size of the slits in the ball. Thanks Kelibr.
