Default Horse bedding

Hi, Today I bought a large £9 bag of horse bedding (called snowflake wood shavings) to use for my hamster & other small animals, it's dust extracted & is exactly like normal wood shavings but this bag will last for ages! I didn't realise how compacted it was so it will last for months, - not sure if it's a common thing used by people for hamsters but i just thought i'd let people know as it's so cheap compared to getting the little bags every time I had never thought of it until today but was really impressed with the amount in the bag

Horse bedding is great I find the most popular are Aubiose and Megazorb. I use Aubiose and it's massive (20kg) and last ages with 8 hams! Only costs me £9.85 from a local horse riding school

I'm having to use shavings for Apollo, he is my first male hamster after 3 females and he absolutely stinks sometimes! So I have to clean his bed out completely every other day to keep it nice for him. I use Fitch but with the rabbits monthly vet and hay bills I can't afford to buy a new bale of Fitch every month to change the ZZ2 sometimes monthly (that's how much he can honk!) because he's the smelliest hamster I've had and I have no idea why I don't use any shavings with the rabbits as they have lino and with Poppy (my first bunneh) still suffering after I used them with her I was reluctant to use them again for a smaller animal, but he was fine with them before when I used them during an emergency so not too worried.

I've ordered the snowflake shavings as I can get them easily and it will be cheaper for me to clean him out! I would go back to megazorb but after their reply regarding the recent smells etc I'm avoiding completely. I'll see how he is, I might try auboise if the horse supply shop I get hay bales from sells it

I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before, it's so much better value than shavings sold for hamsters - I used a wood pulp like megazorb and it seemed to make a really sour smelling smell so I won't use it again - just going to stick to shavings
