Wes, My Little Angel
I can't really express the pain I am feeling right now.
After our visit to the vets this morning, I was quite optimistic for Wes to recover, however when I checked on him he was bleeding from his foot and unable to even waddle or move, he was peeing on himself because he couldn't move either.
I took him back to the vets, I spoke to the vet there, she told me that he was more than likely brain damaged and when I asked her if he was in pain, she said yes.
I had to make the hardest decision of my life and even now I feel guilty for making it, I decided that it was best for Wes to be put to sleep. He was very calm and very unstable, not even battling to stay alive. His foot was bleeding because he had hurt it himself, he was my little baby and I definitely didn't want him to leave this world in pain.
The vet said that the steroids for any inflammation on his brain should have kicked in and yet he was so much worse than this morning.
I choose to leave him with the vets to be put to sleep because I will always remember him, and i=I want to remember him when he was active and happy, not in pain.
Wes ~ February 2005 - September 2005
You will always be my little angel, my baby fluffball, I shall miss you more than any words can express. Rest in Peace Wes.

AWWW *huggles* Im so sorry to hear he had to pass over the rainbow bridge! I still think that it was the best choice of action, to let little Wes go. I would have done that same thing and I do support that decision. Dont have any regrets about that because Im sure Wes would have asked for the same thing if he could talk, but from his body language and the way he acted I think it was his way of also letting you know.
Try not to feel to guilty *huggles*

I would have made the same decision, you have been brave, and you just have to keep being brave, he is at least at rest now, and you know you did everything for him

I'm very sorry to hear this sad news Debs.
It is never an easy choice to make but I really think that you should not feel guilty at all. You made a very brave decision to let Wes be at peace and free of pain and that's a great gift to give him. You did your best for him and didn't let him suffer, and I think any of us would have made the same choice.
When we put an animal to sleep it really is just like going to sleep, very peaceful and quick, and not painful at all, so you've no need to worry about that.
I hope your other little ones can be of some comfort to you now......RIP little Wes.

Oh Debs I never expected to log on today and read this. How awful for you I am so so sorry. You did the right thing, you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. This was not your fault, you did nothing to deserve this, neither did little Wes. Please do not blame yourself in anyway, okay? Take comfort in his children and know he is restored to perfect health over the bridge where he will meet all you previous hamsters, and many more to come over the years I am sure. You are in my thoughts. Rest in Peace Wes darling. Hugs to you.
