Hiya,
nice to have you on here
I am very biased, lol, but i would definately suggest two Roborovskis!!
They, in my oppinion, have the highest chance of staying together until they are adults.
They make great pets too, and are very entertaining to watch.
Kind Regards,
Tammy x

Re: What would be the best kind of hamsters for me to get???
It depends. By small hamsters you mean dwarfs and there are 4 variates. Each with pro's and con's.
Roborovski's as Tammy22 said are adorable! They do have an extremely high chance of staying together (though some do split). However they are hard to handle! They are so fast and normally (though in some cases its different) have to be handled in a bath or something similar! They tend to be watching pets rather than cuddles. Roborovski's rarely bite and tend flee rather than fight!
Russian Campbells and Winter White's are larger than roborovski's and come in quite a few colours! They are really cute and you can handle them really well and become really tame! They aren't anywhere near as fast as Robo's. However, there are lots of cases (especially with Winter Whites) of needing to split because of fighting. The best way to reduce this is to supply a big cage with two of everything! There are some problems with biting with some Campbells more than other breeds though it can be tamed. Generally Campbells are more active than Winter Whites when they are older.
Chinese hamsters are more elongated compared to the others who are more round. I think they only come in 1 or 2 variations but are still adorable! These (I think) are the most likely of all dwarves of having to split.
Overall I think you have to weigh up all the options. If you want to watch adorable hamsters play but not to hold I would reccomend Robo's. If you want to handle and play with them than Campbells, Chinese and Winter Whites would be best! The most likely of the three to stay together are Campbells. Though they may have to be split.
Have you considered one dwarf (minus Robo's as they do seem a bit lonely) it is a lot less upsetting as you might not have to split them and they tend to do fine on their own. Though as I said I think Robo's like company. Frisbee (my robo who I adopted on his own) sometimes does look lonely.

Re: What would be the best kind of hamsters for me to get???
Try as I might (and believe me I'VE TRIED!) I can not get any winter whites to live together, so if you're heart is set on dwarfs I would highly reccomend Campbells who do actually go onto live together in peace and harmony
They're big enough to tame and cuddle while staying small enough to remain extreemly cute and fascinating to watch
Campbells Campbells Campbells!!!

Re: What would be the best kind of hamsters for me to get???
We have quite a number of pairs (both same and mixed sex) of winter whites that live happily together. Stupid though it sounds we have found that the larger the cage the more likely they are to fight. I don't understand it either but that is our experience with them!!
