Default Changing a wheel to a flying saucer

I just got a flying saucer for my hamster Socks, he had a silent spinner wheel before which was to small. But the saucer is kind of confusing him (he gets on and tries to walk then it spins him around in a circle and then he turns and stares at me like "what am I supposed to do with this?") will he just figure it out eventually or are there any ways to help transition him from a wheel to a saucer?

Is the base level? On our saucer, the saucer itself goes up in the air, so basically the low-down part of the "saucer" part is a flat running surface... even when Carmelita is REALLY running fast, she can't get all the way up it. Of course, she had a FS in her tank at the pet store, so she knew. Flower, our first ham, just sat on it for a while, and then we slowly moved the saucer with our hand and held up a sunflower seed for her to walk toward, and she got it right away.

I like to change mine up; sometimes giving them the flying saucer, sometimes the silent spinner, sometimes both. Lately, the saucer is the favorite. Sometimes the boys fall asleep together on it. I used to have Roborovski's and they were just obsessed with the silent spinner.

How is it going Socks? Any improvement?

When I got my Robo, he was in a tank with no wheel whatsoever, so it took him a while to get used to both his wheel and flying saucer.

At first he's run at the center of the fs, so it wouldn't turn, before he eventually figured out to run at the side, however then he would start out so fast that he'd be off the other side, before the wheel had even started to turn! Just like the photo - you can see his feet disappearing off the other side of the wheel:

Hahaha! I love the pic!

It took Penny about a week to get used to it and now it's her favourite thing. She runs for miles on it. And it's silent (unlike the 'silent' spinner)

I haven't been able to stay up late enough to check on him this past week but I will tonight and I can update you on his improvement, I really hope he gets used to it because otherwise he has to stay with his silent spinner which is to small
