Default Hamster-powered phone charger

Hamster-powered phone charger

A 16-year-old boy invented a hamster-powered mobile phone charger as part of his GCSE science project.

Peter Ash, of Lawford, Somerset, attached a generator to his hamster's exercise wheel and connected it to his phone charger.

Elvis does the legwork while Peter charges his phone in an economically and environmentally friendly way.

He came up with the idea after his sister Sarah complained that Elvis was keeping her awake at night by playing for hours on his exercise wheel.

"I thought the wheel could be made to do something useful so I connected a system of gears and a turbine," he said.

"Every two minutes Elvis spends on his wheel gives me about thirty minutes talk time on my phone."

The teenage inventor was given a C for his project and has been awarded a D overall for the course.

Lol that’s funny! I did a science project once on who was smarter a gerbil or a mouse by putting them through a maze to find some cheese in the same places. I cant remember who was smarter though lol,

That hamster in the wheel is pretty cute though! What a handy idea, I should tell my hubby, he’s all over that power saving environmentally friendly stuff

Default Amazing

It is brilliant - 2 minutes wheeling for 30 minutes talk time! I want some of these generators - the amount of hours my group run for collectively I could probably power the whole house!

I know mad I'd have given him an A, poor boy must have had very strict markers on his case

The wheel is small I would certainly recommend an upgrade when the hamster starts to arch its neck like that.

What a totally brilliant idea - that is just pure genious, now all I have to do is hook up all my hamsters' wheels like that, they could power the electricity for my flat!
