Default Does anyone else.....?

I've been feeling a little down of late.

I'm not sure why but I keep getting the feeling that people think I've lost it because I have so many hamsters. I just wondered if anyone else ever gets that, maybe I'm not alone on this one.

I don’t feel that way... and I don’t know why you should feel down about having so many great pets! Who cares what anyone else thinks :P

I've got a ton of pets and I like that when people come over they are curious to see. I don’t feel bad about all the animals I own. I have lots of rodents myself, but I take pride in them because they are well cared for, cages are clean, they are given healthy food, and my place never smells like pets... So who are they to judge?

Maybe if I were an animal hoarder and having more pets than I could handle or afford I'd feel funny, but then I am more responsible then that and I’m sure you are too

thanks Candace, that has made me feel a lot better. I don't know why I am feeling like this, probably just an off day. The point is, I love Wes, Molly, Dylan, Elain, Ylanen and Paige, and even Sooty & Co (Molly's babies - named Sooty and Co because of the squeaky noises they make)

I think the main reason I feel like this is because I just moved out of a place that restricted my pets (that place being my mum's) and I guess I still feel I have to answer to her, although she'd never say anything about them. She loves Wes!!

The main point is, I love them all, they all get exercise every night, cleaned regularly, and attention whenever they are awake, and that's the main thing.

Default Hamster hoarder

I would say I have the most hamsters out of everyone here at HC? Please correct me if I am wrong I don't want to be the resident hamster hoarder... I feel a bit like yourself Candace - I know all my guys are really well looked after and I know my limits and stick to them - which was why I was feeling so low recently because I was unable to take anymore rescues on, due that huge intake of Roborovski. I had to cancel holidays and everything because there was noway I could leave so many for someone else to care for and am glad it is settling down a bit now. You have just moved house Debs and were very sensible about it - you got a spare bedroom just for hamsters and waited for your Roborovski until you had settled in. Maybe not the greatest time for Molly to have a litter but she and you are coping very well and although you own 6 permanent hamsters - 3 live in the one enclosure (Robos) so you only have 4 cages in effect. I may be biased but I really don't think that is excessive for an adult who is aware of her commitments and has a lovely helping other-half too Try to times that by 10 and then see what your friends and family say I have slightly more than half that number at maximum capacity and feel that is more than sufficient

Default Feeling better

Thanks Babyboos. Nick is really helpful and eager to learn too. He has never had hamsters before so this is all new to him. He has been really supportive and caring, and plays with them all, he even had a go at holding the Robo's the other night and didn't do too badly

I understand what you say about everything, i feel that i am coping well, i suppose i am still in the mind-set that i have to justify my actions to older people, and it just so happens that the majority of my friends are all older than me, so i do really care about what they think about.

I have a really good friend too, who is like a brother to me, he looked after Wes, Molly and Dylan when i was over in Ireland and i know i could trust him to do a good job. Wes went in the huff with him for a day or so, until he gave him a bit of chocolate.

But thank you, your kind words have definetly made me feel a lot better about this.

Default Welcome

That's what we are here for at HC - to support and encourage each other and help everyone realise they aren't mad because they love a furball (or two, or three, or four, or ... )

I have 10 hamsters and I love them all sooo much. there is nothing i wouldnt do for my babies.

I know Tony is a bit fed up with the bar chewing at night, and he cant understand why I cuddle them and love them like I do. But they give me so much joy and I really believe they show me affection as well-they love coming out to play.

I have 4 cages too, with 5 residents between them (Lola & Shirley live together, Merry & Pippin had to be separated).

I think my family & friends think I might be a bit loopy about my hamsters but not in a bad way. My boyfriend does think that it's too much, just because of practicalities (money & space) - not just because of the number. But I think he devotes too much money & space to his sound equipment, so it's swings and roundabouts

The good thing about having people keeping me in check is that whenever I think about taking a new pet on, I'm asked if it's practical, if I can afford the time, space & money for it, and that's good because it makes me really examine the question and really be honest about whether it's practical or not.
