Sounds good - People could add their own recommendations. But I'd venture to suggest that it should be moderated before reviews appear in case 'problems' are overlooked.
Or perhaps not? You all seem like a sensible bunch here.

Many people have book review sites on their own websites matty where you can check out what they think of books they have. I do not feel this would be feasible on our forum as one of the mods would have to read all the books to be able to judge if the review was fair and as we all do this in our free time it just would not be possible. The books suggested by the hamster clubs are normally books on hamster care written by respected breeders and judges who have many years experience. You may however like to post your opinions on any books you have read and other may like to share their thoughts in this thread.

i was going to suggest this at one point, but i do see how it would be a pain because of what Souffle said. however, could have a thread that's just like member's opinion of said book, not supported by the site in any way.
for example, i read one recently, can't remember the name, and it's got pics of shows and stuff in, so it's what you'd think to be a good book, but i disagreed with quite a few things e.g. recommendation of wire runged wheels!

Ouch! Not sure why some owners can't see the potential danger in that. You *can* make them safe by threading material through the rungs and sewing the ends together - but it's easier to buy a solid wheel.

the author actually says not to buy plastic ones because they can be chewed! there's pics of the hamstery and every ham is in a starter cage with nothing but a wire wheel. the author says not to give a house and that other toys aren't needed. it looks like cruelty to me

I notice that the new Forum guidelines prevent me from saying what I think of the author here but I think you can understand what's going through my mind.

Is this an old book Bunsey or a modern book still published? Some of the older books on hamster care have quite different and out-dated advice from that given in the more recent publications. Many are now out of print. I diverge though from the original topic. You may post your personal thoughts in a thread if you wish.

sorry this confused me a little maybe I am being thick
we can't have a book review section as mods would have to read the books?
does that mean that for the cage review the mods have to have that cage to know if it's a fair review? I know a lot of cage things can be figured on site and on measurements but still...wouldn't the same hold true?
I can't see the harm when its obviously someone views on the book, and it did also say fiction, would be good to write up favourite hamster books there that really are totally subjective to the reader.

Yes you are right nooboo and I am sorry. It is up to everyone to decide to review books as they wish. I am obviously up too late at night Matty and anyone else who wishes to have this included please submit your suggestion to admin.
