What substrate are you using in the rest of the cage? I find wood shavings can be very smelly.

I use shredded paper, but she will sometimes bring the carefresh from her litter tray into her bed as she open nests. We cant get anythng like megazorb locally, and my mum would say it is too expensive to get on the internet. We can get shavings from our local pet shop but I dont know what wood they are.

Update on the cage situation, the zooplus Barney was ordered yesterday, which I am really excited about because I know Bonkers will love it, and I also made a fly net for my window so it can be open a lot more! Thanks everyone

The fly net is a great idea - I may have to try that :P
Paper bedding isn't great for containing smells. But the good substrates are more pricey if you don't have a local supplier and have to pay for delivery. =\

All I did was to blu-tack a piece of netting to my window- works a treat!

Have you tried looking at the local horse supplies places for Megazorb? That's where we get ours & it works out sooooooo cheaply as a big sack lasts ages for our hamster & guinea cages, a good 6 weeks for about £7 - bargain Postage on the internet for it is a lot though, I'm just lucky we can get it fairly nearby us.

Where in the South West are you? There's a Megazorb stockist in Exeter, for example. You can find stockists here:
Nationwide Stockists: Graze-On Range of Grass-Based Forage Feeds
but I don't think it's exhaustive as someone here reported buying Megazorb (or was it aubiose?) in Paignton I think.
