How much should an avarage syrian hamster weigh?
Okay so this is sort of a random question but i was just wondering How much an avarage syrian hamster should weigh. I think it is important to keep track on how much willow weighs just every now and again to check for weight loss or gain. I bought my hamster on the 14th of february (VALANTINES DAY! ) They told us that he was about 5 weeks old so we just gave him a birthday of the 1st of December because it was that month (or there abouts) He is about 6+ months so how much should he be weighing at his age?
Thanks

It varies a lot. 150g-220g. If he's healthy, bright eyed, good coat, and energetic- good weight for him. Deckard was 80g at 5 weeks. Going to weigh him on Sunday to see if he has grown any.

hmm... I have just read that a male syrian hamster weighs quite a bit less that a female. I think he is 122g-seems a bit underweight but i don't know although he is certainly enegetic

Oh definitely! Females are 180-270. 122g does seem a bit small. What you can do to boost his weight is given him a 70%+ whole wheat bread (1/4 of a slice) occasionally and give him baby food and boiled potatoes and porridge. That should get him up to 150g.

hehe thanks! he looks just right and I feed a little treat everyday like some grape cheese and other kinds of things. On my profile it has a picture of him, does he look underweight to you? I also read that an adult syrian varies from 120-200g on this website UK Pet Centres - All your pet needs.
It says it under biological data. Seen as he isn't quite fully grown yet and is a male hamster I don't think it is to much of a problem however he does look a bit smaller than most syrians of his age.

Yep sounds like he's great. The avatar is too small to really see, you'd have to put a picture up on the forum for me.

I have uploaded 1 as you can see he has a big bum in comparason to his body which is quite funny because when we got him he had massive ears and a small body!

He looks absolutely fine. Some hamsters tend to be smaller. I just wouldn't let him get any smaller and maybe set a goal to get him up 10g. Mealworms and vegetables will help with growth.

aww thanks and Thank-you so much for the advice! I have tried him with meal worms and he just doesn't eat them, do you have any more food suggestions because he gets fed a treat everyday but it doesn't seem to be increasing his weight (probably because he burns all his cals on his BIG wheel!)
