Re: Hamster Elevator
That guy on Hamster Hideout has made loads of crazy gadgets for his Millie, including a device to measure how far and fast she runs on her wheel. I find his project logs fascinating.

Re: Hamster Elevator
i don't really know what to think
the poor hamster in video one is just trying to get to its nest and clearly can't, well not without like 10 goes on the lift! If i'm honest i just think it's very unnecessary, they're likely to cause injuries to the hamster if they don't get in properly and get flattened on the way up, if the thing stops working while they're on the way up, if they fall..
it is cool though, i like the way they've done it. i just would never use one for a hamster.

Re: Hamster Elevator
The Hamster Hideout one is done very carefully and has an electronic beam that detects whether the hamster is fully in the car or not. The elevator doesn't move if the beam is broken.

Hahah oh man. I wonder if he's an engineer for a living and how he has so much time on his hands.

I was a bit upset at the first video too, but in the end found it cute enough to share since he wasn't injured and finally did make it home. I agree though- I personally wouldn't provide an electronic anything to my hamster, as it's unnecessary and carries too much risk of injury. But I'm still glad someone tried it successfully so they could upload it to youtube and provide a brief squeeee for my day

Re: Hamster Elevator
Hmm, to be honest I don't really like the lift. There is too much of a gap between the lift and the house resulting in the ham falling all the time. I also don't like it as it's electrical. It seems to be more for his entertainment rather than the ham's.
I saw that video a few years ago and didn't like it then either! Sorry to be a bore
I much prefer the lift in the second video butt still wouldn't use one as it is electrical.

I definitely agree that it's more for the owner's enjoyment than the hamster's haha. And don't worry; I don't have the skill nor talent to make one of these, even if I thought it was a good and safe idea (which I don't). I just thought it was cute.

Oh, I didn't think you wanted to make one! Just wanted to say what I thought

Re: Hamster Elevator
Another cute video online is "hamster bowling," although I don't think the hamsters actually know they're bowling!
