think of how tiny and fragile their bones are - putting on a tight harness/lead could easily break bones. if you put it on loosely, they'll wriggle out because as we all know, hamsters are escape artists. why would you need to put them in a harness anyway? are you taking them outside? if you take them outside, they're better off in a run with a lid. what if a bird of prey swoops down, or a fox or cat jump at your hamster, whilst it's on its lead? you holding on to something tied around its poor little body or neck isn't going to save it, if anything you'll hurt it more. the harness is clearly for people who think it 'looks cute', not for the safety of the hamsters at all.

oh I'm not attacking you or anything, I'm just explaining why most of us on HC are against harnesses and leads. the cons of using a harness/lead far outweigh the pros.

i don't know why, maybe because i watch my pets like a hawk but i don't really think you would need one for your ham in the first place, once they are comfortable with you i would think you would stop them before they wonder to far, but maybe that's just my in experience talking.
