Re: hammy leash/Harness?
I'd be scared to death of either the neighbor's cat or one of the neighborhood's resident hawks snatching my ham up and having her for lunch, even with an eagle eye on her. So I don't ever take her outside. She has roamed my bedroom before, but that is as comfortable as I am with her free roaming as I do have some dogs who have rather good hunting instincts. Better safe than sorry.

Re: hammy leash/Harness?
As I've said in the previous thread, no I would never use one. I'm only commenting to add that having looked through a few pics on the link I wouldn't ever put two Syrian's together either, it is dangerous and should not be done, having looked further on, they should never be put with dwarf hamsters either. Nor would I keep them in tiny cages wit hsmall wheels.
I'm aware I sound like I've logged on in a right grump, but as that is an account with beautiful pictures of a beautiful hamster I thought it useful to anyone learning about hams to point out that despite the adoration in most of the comments, many of the pictures aren't really ideal in terms of hamster care.

Re: hamster harness and lead
This has been discussed before and the general response is, to put it bluntly, don't use them!

Re: hamster harness and lead
I don't like leashes for any small animals at all
Personally I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

Re: hammy leash/Harness?
sorry to drag up an old thread but I was just looking through the pictures of Chmurka from that link again, and I'm just wondering why this hamster does not seem to be violent towards the other Syrians that this girl introduces? I can understand why the babies may not feel threatened, as they look to be younger than 8 weeks and probably aren't fully territorial yet, but that doesn't explain why Chmurka who looks fully grown, does not seem to mind at all? of course I am not saying that I will use this as an excuse to let Syrians meet - of course not! it's just that it's already hard enough to convince new ham owners about proper hamster care, but if they found Chmurka's photo album, they would probably think that it would be okay to put two together.
ps. I am doubly annoyed because I looked at her other hams' photo albums and she literally stole one of them from a pet shop. she claims to have "rescued" it from a pet shop but from what I have gathered, she DID save it from being trampled/escaping outside, but she could have at least gone back and paid for it. this is turning into a rant about this girl but really I find a lot of the things she does with her hamsters quite questionable...

Re: hammy leash/Harness?
Oh dear lord. I think this has been discussed before, but this is a very unsafe and cruel idea. If you want your hamster to experience the outside world, put him/her in their cage in the garden, in a shady spot, and sit with them. Then they can still experience new smells, etc. but within the safety of their cages! The other alternative is a secure playpen or run. But not a lead. In all honesty, you could easily kill a hamster by holding them too tight, imagine what a nylon rope could do if it wrapped around a twig or something. Also, your hamster won't appreciate being outside in broad daylight with no cover and being dragged around.
I've just looked on her photo stream and it says she brought her hamster home from the pet shop at 3 weeks old...if a pet shop is selling hamster that young they need to be reported.
