LOL! Thats one way of finding out! Would be cool to see some photos of them but I know its an hour away!
It drives me nuts how some people in these stores are SO clueless regarding the care of the animals while in the store. We all know how hamsters are badly mislabeled but to allow two species together in the same cage, to the point where one has cuts on his head - just makes me so mad.
It comes back to the conversation we had earlier on HC about "who" should be allowed to sell pets (other than genuine breeders of course). I think some sort of licensing should be in place for anyone wishing to work in the pet trade, having to go through at least some sort of training on how to care for the animals they sell.
Well, I know you'd "rescue" these little guys if you could! LOL. I know - theres many times I just wish I could bring home pets that need to be in a better environment!

Have to say I don't think purchasing animals from badly run pet stores is "rescue". Sure, it "saves" those particular animals but it only encourages the pet store to get more to repalce them, because they're selling. It perpetuates the business. If we didn't give these badly-run stores our custom, they'd be forced out of business.

I just asked my hubby on the phone if he'd let me buy one so I could show you all and find out what the heck it is lol
I dont know where if put it lol, chinese hamsters are social right? lol

Well, you're right there Emma, I have to agree with you on that. I guess its just the lack of knowledge the staff have when it comes to hamsters (and i'm sure plenty of other pets in the store) . I understand there are lots of teens out there working part time when on school breaks and theres nothing wrong with trying to earn some money, I just wish the management of the stores would be a little more picky when hiring, teens or adults, to make sure that they have some basic knowledge about the pets they're selling. I mean, when I go into the pet store and the sales person tells me "Oh and you have to get this fluffy stuff, its really soft and they love it for their bedding" .... Ya know? It drives me nuts! I looked at her like "DO you realize that you've just promoted a bedding that is KNOWN to be dangerous to hamsters? .
There are very good pet stores out there and unfortunately its the bad ones that give them all a bad name. There are stores you come across where the people are very concerned about the care of the pets in there and are educated enough to be able to educate the consumer about the pet they're buying. I just feel so bad for those animals that are just in the wrong store....

Chinese social
Yes Candace you need to get two males if you are wanting to get Chinese Hamsters - maybe the Chinese were added after the Campbell's and that cage used to hold "Black" Campbell's Dwarf Hamsters (as well as the Albinos) hence the sign saying Blackberry Hamsters....

Plus it doesn't sound like a store that I'd want to give my custom to anyway, if they really are mixing different species in the same cage and obviously know nothing about what animals they have!
