Default What breed is she?

Hi again folks,

As some of you know our family were lucky enough to stumble upon a young lady camping in our garage who is more or less now officially part of the family.

Just out of curiosity we're wondering what breed she is. She's obviously a dwarf. Our guess from looking at google was a Russian dwarf, our vet's guess was Syrian dwarf.

We thought we'd ask the experts see if you lot would have any more luck than us.

So here she is:

She's a bit of a fidget so it was difficult to get her to sit still long enough. Hopefully that's enough to help though. It's not too important but it'd still be nice to know.

Thanks all.

You found her in your garage?! She's a very lucky lady! Sorry I can't help with your question but no doubt someone with experience of dwarfs can!

She looks way too small to be a syrian, i'm pretty sure that someone mentioned she had similar colours of a winter white dwarf hamster (russian dwarf is a hybrid).

She seems to be a little Russian Dwarf in her winter coat I can't be more specific on the species as she's most likely a hybrid of the Campbells and Winter White so this is usually called just Russian.

I'm assuming your vet doesn't deal with many small animals as a Syrian Dwarf doesn't actually exist. If you're ever seeking medical treatment I'd definitely look into finding a better vet

Interesting vet, as others have said there is no such thing as a Syrian dwarf

Her species is hybrid (or "Russian Dwarf" as shops call them) though the hybrid is not technically considered a species as the name "hybrid" means that her genetics consist of the two different hamster species, Winter white dwarfs and Campbells dwarfs.
She does appear to have a Winter Whites coat however as from those pictures it appears she is half way through a winter moult. You may find once the whether warms up the white patches disappear and she becomes a silver/grey colour on top.

She is beautiful whatever she is

Found her in your garage?! How Bizarre! She's very lucky you found her, especially given the old snap we've had recently!

Syrian Dwarf?! Oh dear, thats not good!

I agree with Snickers and Erin, she seems to be a ww/campbell cross. Here is a bit more info on types of hamsters:

Congrats on your find, she is a little cutie

I think I said earlier I think she is probably a Hybrid but always possible to be a pure Winter white if she was obtained from a good breeder originally. She is partly changing out of winter coat at the moment
