Default Dog Bones

Is it ok to give both Buttons and Wispa (Syrian and dwarf) mini dog bones which are made of rawhide?
I can't seem to find a definite answer anywhere?

I can`t honestly answer that one to be honest because rawhide isn`t something I would normally look at as a treat. Dog biscuits in general can be hit and miss as far as their ingredients as many will be made up of `vegetable origins`, which could mean corn/peas and other things that we wouldn`t normally feed to a chinese for example. I`m looking for a small dog biscuit that might have rice as it`s main ingredient but nothing else that could cause an issue. Markies for example are meat based, but who knows what else is included in their makeup? Only Pedigree could break that down for us to fully understand what they are made up from.

Rawhide is usually the skins and offal from animal slaughter, so I wouldn`t touch it to be honest. Pigs ears for example will have salt in them as they come from an animal that produces ham/bacon. These are usually cooked and dried before sale.

Okay thank you =)
I actually gave them both a markie the other day and Buttons went mad for it and Wispa just ate the white around the meat! lol

I won't risk it if it's not really known if it's ok or not =)

I know what you mean. I would give the odd little dog treat biscuit if I knew exactly what the contents were and not just a typical analysis on the bag which will state `derivitives of vegetable or meat origin`? If they would actually say what those are, it would make things clearer. I suppose e-mailing a company direct for that information would be a good idea just to ask if their products contain corn or any sweetners. I guess that`s the only real way to find out. I know the James Wellbeloved company do allergy free kibbles for dogs that won`t contain gluten or cetrain grains, but I`d still want to know what the kibbles do contain if I was feeding it to a hamster and not a dog!

I wouldnt give my dogs rawhide so definately wouldnt give them to hamsters, can strangle and block the gut and also some of the cheaper versions that are made in asia actually come from dogs killed for consumption.

im not too sure. I think that cow&gate rice pudding is? I just usually use the Cow&Gate grandpa's sunday lunch. and btw my dog eats winalot dog biscuits and Bubbles likes them so they're ok. just becareful with other buiscuits as hammies are allergic to onion.

My hams have dog biscuits weekly to keep their teeth trim and I vary the brand to keep them interesting: markies, bonios, mini bonios. I am pragmatic in feeding my Chinese and avoid sugars, but feel a bit of corn's not the end of the world. All the hams got a little rawhide chew for Christmas which they have nibbled at with varying enthusiasm. Obviously they don't crunch it as a dog does!
