Peeing on me?
Almost every time I get Poppy out of her cage to hold her she pees on me. I don't know if she does this because she wants to go back to her cage (which I don't think would be the situation because she's always trying to crawl out). I tried to hold her in a towel but it doesn't work because she runs right off of it. Somewtimes if I see it coming I can get her back to her cage in time. Is there any way to make her stop or something?

Re: Peeing on me?
Is it pee? Hamster pee is a milky colour. Female hamsters do a kind of scent marking (called vaginal marking) in a similar way. They most often do it if they scent a male hamster. It is quite gross and shocking when they first do it!
When I attended my first show, I was handed a female hamster to hold while the owner cleaned out her show pen ready for benching. She did it on me and gave me a right shock because I had only ever had males! During judging, a female did it to the judge (Spuds Mum, a mod on here).

Re: Peeing on me?
Another option from the above: Do you wake her up to get her out? I sometimes find my hammies pee on me when they haven't had chance to go to the loo upon waking.

Yes it pee, at least most of the time, and yes I wake her up to get her out.

Re: Peeing on me?
Maybe try waking her, giving her a few minutes to groom, relieve herself, have a drink etc, then get her out? I find if I do that they are less likely to use me as a toilet!

Re: Peeing on me?
Yeah, I'll try that. I seem to be used as a toilet very often!

Waking her up to get her out (I assume you wake her up and take her out as soon as she's awake?) isn't good for a number of reasons and may cause aggression. You try being woken up then getting picked up by a giant It's no wonder she's peeing on you if you do this >.<
If you need to wake her up so that you can handle her (if she normally wakes up too late for you) then do it about half an hour before taking her out - this gives her time to go to the toilet, have something to eat, drink and have a wash. And of course, gives her time to actually wake up
If you do this at a specific time each day she should (but might not) start to naturally wake up at that time as she will soon realise that this is when she gets to go out
