Default How long do they live?

I am interested to hear if others have found a similar difference to us between the sexes. as to which sex lives the longest.
Looking back many years we find that males seem to live significantly longer than females unless they get some major illness. Here are the ones I remember. Post your info and I will try and graph it out to see.
Buffy - Female Syrian 23months - old age
Lucy - Male! Syrian 3yrs 11months - old age
Lily - Female Syrian 1yr - pyometra
Barley - Bred Female Syrian 1yr 11months pyometra
Peppermint - Male Syrian 2yrs 6months - old age
Runty - Male syrian 3yrs 2 months - old age and abdominal tumour
Bailey - Bred Female Syrian- 1yr 11 months - pyometra
Nelson - Male Syrian 2yrs 6months - old age
Red ~ Female Syrian 1yr 11 months ~ pyometra
Sonni ~ Female Syrian 1yr 11 1/2 months ~ old age
Paws ~ Male Syrian 2yrs 4 months ~ old age
Crinkles ~ Male Syrian ~ 3-4 weeks ~ unknown reason

Please can you state the type of hammy and if you know why they died and also wih females if they have been bred.
From this small group alone we can see that pyometra is the big problem for females and that our males live a lot longer.
I hope you can help us with the info and we may write it up for the journal. Thanks.

I would be interested to see the comparisons between females who have and have not been bred from, is it a male/female thing or is it simply a product of the females undergoing pregnancy etc as with most species us included that results in shorter life spans.

Unfortunately I have only have Kretchmer who is female and she is very much still with us.

I never realised pyometra was so common. My mum's friend's son's hamster died of that too I've seen a few cases on another hamster forum too.

Name: Bailey
Sex: Female
Bred: No
Purchased from: Local petshop
Born: September 2005
Death: 19th June 2007
Age: 21 Months
Cause: Unknown, possibly old age.
Symptoms: She'd been sleeping longer a few days before she passed. The night before she seemed shaky, I offered her some food and water. I held her briefly - she snuggled into my hand almost asleep so I put her back in her cage. The next morning, I looked through her Gabber Rex Ramp and she was alive, sleeping, her breathing rate seemed a little fast. By lunch (I got home at 12pm - she'd passed away and was lying in the middle of her cage )

Name: Benji
Sex: Male
Purchased from: Breeder (babyboos)
Born: July 2006
Death: Between 8th (night)& 9th (morning) April 2007
Age: 8.5 - 9 months
Cause: Tumour in his abdomen (I took him to the vets but nothing could be done)
