Re: How long do they live?
My first ever Syrian was a female that came from a local pet shop that was run pretty badly but considering we gave her such a lovely life and a nice cosy home to live in she lived for almost 3 years!
However both my past two baby boys that came from another pet store lived for ust under two years.
My current Hammy comes from p@h and is male and seems to be enjoying life so I doubt he'll be off over the rainbow bridge anytime soon (:

Re: How long do they live?
Only owned 1 Syrian Boy from a local type Petshop and he lived till a ripe old age of 4yo. He was vey sadly PTS . He stopped eating and cleaning/caring for himself and also got sticky eye, bless him. The Vet put it down to (very) old age.

Re: How long do they live?
Only had one hamster before Bobby - which was Boove (female) who lived for 6 months. Not too sure what happened - she had a swollen foot and wouldn't eat/drink.
(:

Re: How long do they live?
All Syrians no litters
Bob 3 months male - no idea what happened he was fine the day before
Polo 1 year 10 months male- Tumour put to sleep
Sweep 1year 8 months male- no idea what happened because he seemed fine the only problem was he wasn't alive
Annabelle 1year 10 months female- stroke, unable to eat and put to sleep
Zippy 1week male- don't know what happened there
Puff 1 year 2 months male- bumped his noggin while doing acrobatics in his cage
Everyone seems to have longer living ones than me. am I doing something wrong or am I just unlucky? I'd love for one to get to 2yrs old, they all have seemed happy and healthy though so I don't know whats going on

Second/Third: Both dwarf hamsters died, they escaped and when they came back they died a few days later (7months old.)

Re: How long do they live?
I have only seen two of mine die so far. Both within the last week or so:
Houdini - Winter White Male - approx. 2.5 years old - Old age?
Lemmiwinks - Winter White Male - approx. 2.5 years old - Died from tumors/old age
I think they were both the same litter. A third one, Spazz, was in the same litter too. He is still very healthy and still going strong (unusually active considering his age actually). I also have a fourth Winter White, Marilyn, a female I got from a nearby store. She was tagged as a Winter White, but she might be a Campbells hybrid. She looks kinda haggard, but otherwise seems fine. Pretty active. She is around the same age as the other three.
I don't know for sure what killed Houdini. I know for sure Lemmiwinks had tumors though.

Re: How long do they live?
i can only remember roughly how long my hamsters lived for ,
gizmo - syrian- 17 weeks -to this day i dont know what happened, she looked and seemed really healthy but i found her dead in her house
misty - russian dwarf - 2 years- from what i gathered she had jumped off the shelf of her cage and broke her neck
casper - russian dwarf- a few months- wet tail
buttons - few months- tumour
taz- 2 months - unknown, he did go to the vet and had medication but was never properly diagnosed, from what ive read though i think it may have been his bedding as i was using the fluffy stuff
