How long do they live?

Looking back many years we find that males seem to live significantly longer than females unless they get some major illness. Here are the ones I remember. Post your info and I will try and graph it out to see.

Please can you state the type of hammy and if you know why they died and also wih females if they have been bred.
From this small group alone we can see that pyometra is the big problem for females and that our males live a lot longer.
I hope you can help us with the info and we may write it up for the journal. Thanks.

Bootz ( male ) is now 3 years old and still going well! But i noticed his eye was swollen a small amount. but is cleared quickly i hope he's okay

Dot - female Robo, lived approximately 2 years.
Although she was never a particlarly strong hamster as she was quite injury prone, she kept fiting through all the bad times until she had a fit and could take no more.
Was not neccessarily due to any inherited stuff although she was a pet shop ham.
As her sister (peggy) is still going strong.

Alyssa was grown when I got her but lived 6 months with me.. She froze to death. It was tragic, we had been called on a family emergency when my grandfather died. we would check on her every day and change her bedding, add more, feed her etc.. but there was a drop in the temp one night, my mom went to check on her and she had passed away, she had piled all her bedding on top of her, but she died. she was not hibernating.


Mimi... I got her from a petshop in the mall. so I do not know how old she was.. she also lived with me about 6 months or so. She died of unknown causes. woke up one morning and she had died. it was in the spring so the weather wasn't the problem. I always assumed it was the quality of food. cause back then, all we had near me was these round green hamster pellets.
the internet wasn't available to get info on raising hamsters like now.

Hiya! here are one of my hamsters age.
Sophie(Female)~About 6 months, FROZE TO DEATH! I felt so bad for her.

I had a female syrian when I was a child. She was never bred and was around other hamsters (both syrian and dwarves) and lived to be around 3.5 or 4. She died of old age.

Sausage - 1 year - Many many many problems, was on medication his whole life, a beautiful hamster.
