Ahh, that explains it, you've described him perfectly he has little tufts exactly where you said, he's definitely not a rex but I was wondering about his lovely fur.

His fur is also yet black apart from the ends which seem to be white and then ginger, but he looks completely ginger to look at if this makes sense.

I'm really interested now

Hope to go to the show on Feb 23rd as I would like to get a look at the different types because Iwonder if Kretchers might have one long hair parent rather than be truly long haired

From your pictures of Kretchers I would say she is a full long hair. Females do not have nearly as long fur as males and are more sort of fluffy all over with the ear and scent gland tufts and a small mini skirt at the back. This can get longer as they get older too.
The Golden fur is usually a very dark grey to black almost half way up the hair shaft then you have a band or rick chestnutty orange. This band can vary a lot and can be pale ginger to a very dark browny chestnut. The very tip of the hair should be tipped with black and in an umbrous hammy the back ticking is all over giving the hammy a sort of sooty appearance. There is a pictute of the fur of a golden parted here.

Thanks Souffle, that link is really useful. I think on that basis he is a golden (but not umbrous) and half long haired

Wth Kretchers the tufts at the back are small and wispy and sometimes not that noticeable which is why I wondered whether she was a half and half.

Really want to go to a show now Have sent off my money to join the Midland Hamster Club too.
