Have spoken to my other half tonight, we both agreed we cannot leave him there, will go to the shop tomorrow and see if I can pick him up tomorrow night and then I will foster him until he can go to his new home, thanks Holly you've put my mind at rest knowing you are there.

He may even stay here, who knows but if he is still there he will be coming home with me!!

Can I just say, what fantastic people we have on here! It is very sad when a hamster is in these situations - do people in pet shops not realise that hamsters have genuine feelings and cramping them into a tiny cage is very cruel?!

Rescues are a very rewarding way of giving something back to the animals, I currently have 5 here now!

Congratulations to you all

Excellent news, Catja - phew - have you got somewhere to keep him until I can get there? (I think it's unlikely I can get there before next weekend though I'm still trying). I feel relieved he'll be out of that situation tomorrow, that's great news.

If you fall in love with him and you don't want me to take him I understand totally and I'll just be happy he's got a great home with someone I'd be happy to send one of my own babies to

If not, see you very soon!

Now I am in tears! I know Julie (Holly) and some other members of HC so understand what a lovely caring person she is, but I really feel privileged to know (albeit only via internet) such wonderful people altogether.
Well done Catja - looks like there may be a fight over the little guy now !
He doesn't know what a fantastic new life he's going to hopefully begin tomorrow

You are all the best! x x

Sorry Holly, have only just come on line. I would be happy to get him but see Catja has already volunteered. I have been thinking about him too, I was intending to PM Catja to see which pet shop he is in.
I have spare cages and am not at work tomorrow so let me know if I can be of help.

I have just come on this thread to have a read and what a fantastic turnaround For it to start out so sad, hearing about a little, innocent hamster that sounds in need of help to it being rescued by such wonderful people on here is just amazing!
Good on you all for planning on releasing this wee hamster from this pet shop and hopefully the council will get to look in to it soon.

Wonderful news and well done all. We were also trying to work out how we could get this little man. He is likely a cinnamon, one of our favourite colours Catya. I am sure once he is in a good home he will become fit and well muscled as he has probably grown fat with lack of excercise. I cannot wait to find out how it goes tommorrow and congratulate you all on those offers of homes. He will tame with kindness, love and patience so do not worry. I hope something will be done about the conditions for the other little ones. Good luck with getting him and it is lovely to know there are so many lovely people out there.

Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the offers of help, it is good to know you are all out there. I was just so devastated when I saw him today that I was hopeless in the afternoon at work and just felt so wretched for him.

I had seen the hamsters in the tanks and heard this keening noise and looked up to see the most gigantic hamster I had ever seen crying quietly and knawing the bars of this tiny cage.

He has no play things or chews just a nest made out of the unsafe fluffy bedding!

I am going to try and get there first thing tomorrow (will be late for work but what the hell) and make sure he is there and they know I want to take him, will try and persuade them again on the donation side but I don't think they will budge).

I thought maybe I could take my cage in that I use for transport it is about 40cm x 30cm but clean and with toys and have him put in this so he is used to it a bit by the time I pick him up at 5:00pm. What do you think?

It will be about a 45 minute journey home.

Cage wise I have the large tank one I bought at Queenswood which I was going to save for a Syrian anyway. My plan is to bring him home and let him settle in and then see how he is behaviour wise, as if I feel he needs more time, care or expertise than I can give him then I will certainly be giving you a shout Holly/Basia as he deserves much much better than the start he has had.

He maybe yours yet Holly!

Fingers crossed he is still there as the last thing I want too is for him to be sold with a cage from that place as they only had small Crittertrails available!

I really wasn't sure what OH would say when I broached the subject, but his reaction was "Go get that hamster!!"

I'm so happy you are getting him Catja, I'm sure you'll fall for him big time but any problems I've got the Rex and I'm very happy to come for him.

I'd sort of got used to the idea of having him yesterday but as long as he's out of there I'm ecstatic. If he doesn't come to me I've decided I'll keep the Rex free and perhaps I'll be able to take another little guy who's in need of a home. Sadly we all know there are so many more out there.

Hope all goes well Catja.
I have to say I find it very difficult to look at hamsters when I am in petshops because I just want to rescue them all.
