Re: Ham-sitting! (lots of hams with lots of photos)
You know, last night I was a bit flustered with all the hamsters. I was going to sleep and kept thinking "did I ever want a lot of hamsters?.." It's certainly a lot of fun at the moment, but it's also soooo much responsibility. They are not even mine, and I'm so worried about all of them being okay, fed, watered, cleaned, not bored, etc. It's a lot of stress, really. I didn't even have time to hang out with my own gang yesterday, just Lucy a bit. I think this is actually a good educational experience for me. I understand now the value of having fewer hamsters, because at some point there are too many, and I start feeling really guilty that I can't participate in their lives enough. And mine are all dwarf hamsters (mostly self-sufficient robos), so I couldn't imagine having multiple syrians.
I'm happy to experience young babies though, it's certainly a gift. I'm getting very attached to the 5 week old campbell boys, who are the sweetest things! But it will definitely be a relief when they all go home

Re: Ham-sitting! (lots of hams with lots of photos)
I totally agree with you, I love it when I'm breeding, having all the babies, the cuteness, something always going on. It's an amazing experience. I do spend so much time worrying about them though, and feeling bad I'm not giving then all enough attention. About once a year is perfect for me, it tends to last a few months, then all quiet again. Well except I always end up with more permanent residents of course

Re: Ham-sitting! (lots of hams with lots of photos)
SQUEE!!! Tiny hams!
Older baby and younger baby--size comparison
Today the babies have been venturing out and discovering all the new areas and a low water bottle + small plate of water Mom was initially carrying them all back in diligently, but toward the late evening started allowing them to continue walking. When do the babies stop getting hydration from mom? I think I've shown at least half of them how to drink from the bottle and bowl--could have been more as I was away from the cage for a couple hours. Don't want them to get dehydrated.
Also, could anyone suggest good baby + new mom food? Tofu? I've been giving mealworms to the mom and older babies, but not sure what the little ones can partake in. The babies do nibble on solid food now.

Do you mean the multi-colored S.A.M. Lightinin' Wheel (7")? That one is very noisy. I have to put a damper like tape or paper between the back of the wheel onto the axe. I also wrapped thread on the axel, which makes it ok, though not silent. But without those, there's a lot of clanking about the axel (the axel is not uniform, but has angular ladder like parts). But I only use it for play time, and I'll probably gift it to those boys anyway, along with the bin, as they won't be kept in a bedroom.
