Default yay, i managed to hold waffles :D

I just managed to hold waffles for about 10 seconds without being bitten

Woohoo

He's very scared of people at the moment and is very jumpy. At first, he would launch himself across the cage when I put my hand in (to put food in, spot clean etc) to try and sink his teeth into me.

But have given him time to settle in and left him well enough alone. Just heard him on his wheel, so I decided that awake and happy was a good time. went over and opened the cage and when he came over, attempted to pick him up (until today I haven't succeeded with that yet, keep being bitten! ) and he let me
Only held him for 5 - 10 seconds and then put him down. My aim at the moment is to try and teach him that bad things won't happen when he's picked up any more

Sorry, just feeling like it's a big accomplishment and no-one else will get it, so thought I'd share

Thats great news

Something to bare in mind - some perfectly tame hamsters still get aggressive when in their cage, it's purely them defending their territory so if he never stops it I wouldnt worry Sounds like he's well on the way to becoming tame though

Thanks

I don't think his problem is with cage aggression since he didn't have that to start with (not with me, in his old home)
I think his problem is purely with being scared that bad things will happen when he is picked up, as that is what he is used to.
Once he feels more comfortable, I'm confident that the cage aggression will stop
