Talking My new hamster!

So I put a thread on HC asking about Robos and Syrians. I had a long think between which I should get. Anyway in the end I decided to go for Bugatti the Robo, as he is extremely cute and was up for adoption. At the moment he is digging tons of holes in the sawdust (making hideouts). It is very hard for me to handle him though, as his speed makes it nearly impossible. Should I leave him for the first few days to settle in?

I have a few first pictures of her here.

Well, I bet you're going to get a lot of advice to leave him be for a few days...

But admittedly I never do. I always handle them a least for a couple minutes of introducing the hand within the first 24 hours. I have the tamest robo I've ever heard of. I'm sure it's her nature, she sleeps with me for hours during the day and is very affectionate, but handling her right away didn't ruin her adjustment to the home.

Taming a robo can be a long process but they are very fun little hams!

Bugatti is very cute!! Good luck taming him and congrats on adopting him!!

Yep i would leave him to settle for a few days. One of my robos Cookie will never ever let me hold him but Crumble loves attention and likes to be held. He is very cute congrats!

I'd have to agree to leave him for atleast 24hrs to settle in, thats what I've done with all my guys. Some may say more time, but I'd say watch him, if he seems comfortable and you want to try introducing your hand then go for it. Congrats on him, he's adorable!

Oh well he is lovely!

It is a good idea to give him a little time to settle, it's good to get him used to your voice though, and then just start putting your hand into his cage and see how confident he is. All robos ,well all hams have different personalities, some with be hopping on you straight away, some take time and patience, and some never will. Tempt him with his favorite foods so that he associated you with lovely things, let him come and take them from next to your hand, then from on your hand. He'll end up sitting on there happily munching away before you know it!
