Default Hair

How long does a long haired Syrain's hair get!? Does the hamster ever loose it and grow it back shorter? (molting?)

Just wondering because my hamster's hair is llllooonnnngggg. I brush it twice a day and as soon as I brush it and he starts moving it becomes messy again.

It can vary from hamster to hamster, and males have much longer hair than females - most longhaired females just look a bit fluffy wheras the males can have coats several inches long.

Default Longer the better

In hamster show circles the longer the better especially, and ideally long ALL over. They do molt slightly but it will usually come in longer rather than shorter

Hair on a male can vary quite a bit. I have a male who has a long haired coat that is the length of a long haired female, and a male with a really long fluffy coat.

The make with the long coat is also a rex, so he was in the process of molting, and his coat is just now growing back.

I'm hoping he has his coat back by June for the next hamster show. lol

^ This is about the average coat length you see on a lot of males

And here is Jynx and his no coat
