Question Can't decide :/

I have a slight problem. I only have two cages hence two hamsters. Another problem, I saw a really cute Syrian (baby) that I really like. Therefore it would mean finding a new home for one of my Russian Dwarfs. What do you think I should do? If anyone lives in the Manchester area I could bring it round for someone who cares for hamsters. I really need to decide whether to keep my two RWWs or give one away and get the baby Syrian which I have had my eye on for a while :/ help?

Do you not think it's a bit unfair to rehome one hamster and buy another?

I'd keep the hamsters you have at the moment.

Yes I did think of that. There are many hamster lovers that would hate me at the moment :L It's just that I really like this Syrian. If I can find a new home for my other, it may even have better care and be equally as happy.

At the end of the day it's up to you but I think it's a bit wrong? :/ I'd never be able to give my pet away and get another, it's not a toy that you just swap.

I, personally, would never dream of giving any of my hams away. I may joke about it with Tobi because she's a pain but I'd never actually get rid of her. I love each of them and made a commitment to them that I'd care for them.

But it's up to you.

I know it's really hard to think 'no' when you see an animal you've connected to, but who's to say you won't see another hamster a few months down the line that you want to swap for the Syrian? You have to address how you feel about this. Could you, within yourself, consider it fair or right to stress one of your current hamsters by moving them to a different home, just because you want a new pet? If I were that hamster, I would be upset, confused and hurt by the fact I was no longer wanted. You have all the time in the world to have as many pets as you want, but you need to make sure you are committed to them for the whole span of their lives, else you are guilty of neglecting them, even if you do fin an appropriate home.

Another thing to consider is that most dwarf hamster cages are not nearly suitable enough in size for a Syrian, so you would have to get a new cage anyway.

I know it's not fair for the hamster. I would probably have to give it to someone very close if I was to re-home as it deals with stress. I wouldn't have to worry about cages because I have built my own. It would be hard to swap. I am still considering it, as it's probably better to think of my hamster than myself.

I have been in that situation before. You just feel so connected. But it's probably not worth it because imagine you're the hamster and you got swapped for a better one. It's not a good feeling

True. As long as hamsters get food, water and properly cared for they are fine though. I do have to think about the negatives though...

There's more to it than that though.

Izu needs proper care and delicate handling.

Tobi needs lots of patience to deal with her insane chewing.

Rao needs...Well me. XD She won't get up otherwise.

Claudio needs lots of care for his fur and snootiness.

All hams need more than just food and water. They all have personalities and proper bonds with us. It's upsetting to sever those bonds.
