Default Is this a show standard hamster colour?

Or another name for this thread could have been "What happens when you give a hamster a green hamster chew toy from Pets at Home".

We bought these hamster chews last week. They were in the shape of large toothbrushes, one coloured pink, one coloured green. Tonight Teresa gave Chip the green one. Chip worked at it furiously for about an hour turning it in to mush. I then noticed she had undergone a slight transformation...

"What do you mean I am green?"

"Must clean it off... IT WON'T COME OFF!!"

"I am so depressed. Nothing left to do but comfort eat now!"

The offending chew toy (or what was left of it!)

The worst of it seems to have brushed off, so hopefully she will return to normal soon. Overall I am not too impressed with that chew toy (imagine giving that to your prized show hamster the night before going to a hamster show!).

I am however toying with the idea of giving the pink chew toy to Ice, my white dwarf hamster... mwooo ha haaaaaa (that was a joke by the way before anyone takes me seriously and flames me!! )

Aw poor Chip, it is rather a fetching green though.
I will give those a miss I think.

Yes, I certainly wouldn't recommend them. It even made a right mess of the cage tingeing it green as well. Whoever designed that chew toy can't have trialled it out very well before putting it in to production. It's a shame they don't do colourless ones though as Chip absolutely loved it, the mucky pup!

Now we are just left with one unused pink chew toy. So... would anyone like to buy a brand new unused pink hamster chew toothbrush? It makes an ideal hamster treat. Ahem!

Well we bought it because she loves chewing and it was supposed to be filled with mint and herbs. As Chip is becoming a right little 'bar chewer' we thought we'd try to get her interested in something else! I should have thought about the colour, but it just didn't occur to me It did work though - as you can see from the photo of it demolished.

Oh and I've just noticed that on one photo chip's eye is closed - for all those who know about the operation, it is still fine, she just gets lazy sometimes and we have to threaten her with the cotton wool and sterile water before she opens it. Mind you last night of course, it wasn't just her eye that needed bathing!!!

Do you know if this is an artificial colourant as this much dye cannot be good for a hamster. Send those pics to the manufacturer and take them to pets at home for their comment. I am sure they should change the amount of dye used as it should not make such a mess. Poor wee Chip. She would make a good Halloween hammie there. The Incredible hulkham I think!

Good point Souffle, think I will do that.
I feel really stupid, but it just didn't occur to me. She likes chewing cuttlefish and this stuff is like chalk with herbs in the middle.
Chip doesn't seem to have suffered any ill effects thank goodness but I will keep a very close eye on her. Hopefully she didn't digest much of it as she was more just destroying it rather than eating it..but I will keep a close watch.

I'm sure she would have been just as happy if it was uncoloured and I would too. I guess they try to make them brighter coloured to appeal to youngsters??

Would definitely send a picture to Pets at Home as she obviously enjoyed it but that amount of staining is shocking

Just imagine going to a show after that as you said!
