Enriching a hamsters life

I was wondering if everyone here would be willing to share what things they do that they feel especially enrich their hamster's life. What i mean is special things you might do with your hams housing or things you do during his "out of cage" time.

Its really important to make that extra effort with pets in my opinion. I read of some people getting an aquarium or similar container and filling it up with lots of different (safe) substrates that it can dig and burrow in, tubes and one or two food treats hidden in different places.

Our hammies just love to climb stairs. They can get up quite a speed and we time them to the top! Another favourite is to take the hammy on the bed and make hills and caves with the duvet and pillows. They love a good old explore. Be warned don't do this with a hammy who is not reliable out the cage in terms of going for a wee.! In the cage we find they enjoy the nibble sticks and like to strip a sweetcorn (dried) We also like to change the toys about for a change. We find that with the playpens they spend all their time trying to climb out! They like free running on the bed or sofa better. I am sure you will soon come up with loads of ideas for your new little one.
