My first Hamster escape and where does she end up? My bed!
Ha I cant quite believe this. My Syrian was using something in her cage to stand on to bar chew so I took it out around midnight. I obviously did not shut the cage properly and she got out. Now my animals are kept on a shelving rack with my Syrian in the middle above my rats. She obviously jumped down ignored my rats and toddled off. Now I swore about half an hour ago I heard something move in my room but thought I was just tired. About 5 minutes ago I woke up to find My Syrian inches away from me on my bedside table and was in total shock! Checked her over and she is fine. Dont know whether to laugh or cry. She obviously wanted to wake me up to get me to put her back in her cage. Clever girl!

Thank goodness she's safe and ignored the ratties!
I'm terrible with their cages... I lock them up, turn out the lights and immediately think i've not locked them so I get up to check lol

I am normally the same Demecat. I dont understand why I did not shut it properly. But I must have forgotten to do it. The look on my face must have been priceless when I opened my eyes. I thought I was going mad!

a couple of my syrians when i use to have them learned to open their cages from the locked position. my current hamsters know where the locks on their cages are but are not able to open these ones. be careful she hasn`t learned how to open her own cage. although it is nice she strolls around and comes back to say i`m done.

My first hamster escape ended up jumping off my chest of draws, ran down the stairs, across the living room and under the cooker in the kitchen! I had to do a food trail to get her back again

Me too, I normally check on my hamster before I go home (I keep her at my girlfriends) So I will normally check on her before I go, play with her if shes out and active, then just before im about to leave I always go back to check if its closed properly which I know it is, I just NEED to check again to be in the safe side.

Eek! I'm glad she ignored the ratties! Won't rats attack pretty much any small, non-rat animal that finds its way in?
The first (only!) time my boys got out, I found one of them nesting in a shoe.

aha bless, my old hamster, Crysta used to do that regularly! every few weeks I'd wake up to him either sat on my head or sat on my feet waiting to be put back after his adventure!

Re: My first Hamster escape and where does she end up? My bed!
My rats cage has 1.2 cm bar spacing so I dont think she could have got in if she had wanted to but they could have tried to swipe at her through the bars. Luckily my boys nest box is right in the back left corner and they were fast asleep when I went to put Betty back!! But I count myself as very very lucky they both decided to just ignore each other.
Faerydae thats what she was doing she was just looking at me and I could just imagine her saying, well finally your awake!!!
Next time I think I will just leave her to bar chew rather than attempt to close her cage half awake!!!

Her cage doesnt have any doors so this is totally my error! She has a gabber rex and I have already cable tied the small door on the roof shut as I was worried she was going to attempt to get out. It has a grill on the top that slides out and when I went to put her back I noticed I had not pulled the grill back all they way, leaving just enough space for her to get out!
Although I do like the thought of her being some sort of superham and pulling the grill across!!!

I have a loose cage door and it is currently being closed with padlocks, can you use cable tires? Wont the little hammy bite on them?
