Default Severe Hamster Bite Allergy?

Someone (who knows of my interest in hamsters but is scared of them herself!) told me about this:

Anyone else see it?

ooh
I'm surprised he had the pen in the house because of a penicillin allergy, perhaps he has other serious allergies too. Maybe something under the floorboards was the cause and not the hamster bite.
I don't have a pen and the only time I ever had penecillin it nearly killed me. Thankfully hamster bites don't seem to have any effect!

Interesting link but a shame the hammy got the bad press here. He would probably have reacted the same way to any bite or sting as he already had an epipen! Hope he recovers well but I would avoid all pets if I were him.

Yes, I think he must have much more than just an allergy to penicillin - other articles on this story that I've been shown state that he has multiple allergies.

Also it would be unusual for someone only allergic to penicillin to be issued with an epi-pen. Epi-pens are usually given to people who have anaphylactic reactions to environmental allergens (like bites, stings or unknown causes) because exposure to these is unpredictable whereas people with allergies to certain drugs simply have to avoid them.

I thought it was interesting to see names from the hamster world commenting.
