Default Karlie Wonderland Exercise Wheel Review

I havent seen any real reviews for this wheel so i thought it might be useful for some people thinking about getting this wheel
I bought this wheel for my syrian hamster Nibbles who was getting too small for his 6.5" silent spinner/wheel. I got this wheel from zooplus here is the link:
Wonderland Exercise Wheel: Great Small Pet Accessories at zooplus

I bought the 8" one (20cm for syrians) but you have the choice of a 4.5" (15cm for dwarfs) or a 11" ( i think for rats or large hamsters) but at the moment the 11" one is unavailable for some reason. But for syrians its recomended that you get the 20cm one unless you have a big hamster. Here are the prices at the moment.
15cm- £9.99
20cm- £12.99

Here is the description that zooplus give you:
Continuation of Product Description:
It is important to provide them with opportunities to do this with an exercise wheel which both is suitable and safe.

The Wonderland exercise wheel is made from untreated wood. It offers safety through staves in the wheel, which reduce the risk of accidents from slipping. The wide wooden stand enables a stable positioning on the floor of your cage or run. It also runs particularly quietly, so that owners of nocturnal pets will no longer be disturbed in their sleep.

The Wonderland wooden exercise wheel is a real fitness tool, which provides optimal support for your pet's natural drive to be active.

Wonderland Wooden Exercise Wheel:

Made from natural wood
Wide and stable stand
Low noise
Internal staves for safety

I ordered it and it took around 5 days to come.
Here is a picture of when Nibbles first went in it

he was in it for hours and hours he loved it so much

After about a day i noticed that there were tiny little dots of blood scattered all over the wheel which really worried me here is the original thread if you want more info: worried please help :(
Found the problem! :d
As in the second link, i found a small cut on his paws caused by a splinter which caused the bleeding. So if you get this wheel make sure you check for splinters and sandpaper them off.
As for cleaning which can be a problem, as its wood you cant put water on it. What i do is spray (from a distance) pet disinfectant so it cleans but doesnt get to wet that it will fall apart and i also sandpaper the parts where there are splinters and chew marks.
Some people say that you can put "plasticote" on it which could work but i personaly wouldnt try it.
Also it doesnt have a spindle which is good as long haired hamsters get fur tangled in it

If your hamster chews it its safe wood, Nibbles does chew his but not a alot.
Here is what the wheel looks like now after a few months

He chewed the "karlie wonderland" green name thing off lol

Still a few blood marks or it could just be the wood from him using it so much lol

Its also silent completly apart from the feet moving lol
Overall a fantastic buy and i really recomend it
Nibbles loves it so much he never comes off it lmao

Pro's
Silent
Good size
No bars on it
Safe to chew
Solid base
No spindle
Looks nice

Con's
Quite expensive
Cant clean it really...
Splinters
Not good for hamsters that chew all the time
Cant attach it to the bars

Feel free to ask questions or add your own reviews on the product

Molly has had this wheel for 3 days now, as yet no problems with splinters, but she seems to love it and spends ages running on it. Not that I'd hear it, it's so quiet. So much better than the old plastic one she was using which I could hear upstairs in bed whilst she played on it downstairs lol.

I have 3 of the 15cm ones (which is 6" I think, not 4.5") and I'd say they are a TAD too small for a campbells, and would be far too small for a chinese (I'd also say that they would be too slow for a robo,)
I bought a 20cm one for my dwarf girl though, and she loved it.

You say that a con is that its not so good for a hamster that chews, but I know that I have to discourage Sen from biting her [plastic] wheel, and maybe wooden would be good from that point of view.

I ordered this last weekend and it came yesterday morning heh, the irony. When Chewy gets so ill he stops wheeling! Just as well as it gives me time to plasticote it for ease of cleaning, and after reading this, double check is and give it a little sand .

Thanks for the review. I expect if Chew doesn't get to the point where he can enjoy it, the next critter to share my home hopefully will. Poor Chew! x

Very good, easy to understand revue Coolcat. The wheel looks nice but it`s wood, so that puts me off. I like a wheel that can be cleaned more easily, so I tend to go for plastic wheels.

The splinter issue is also a big one for me and although hamsters and rodents will enjoy chewing wood, I don`t like the thought of a sharp splinter causing an injury, so another reason to put me off buying one.

I would buy a varnish that is safe and give the wheel part a good few coats and leave it outside for a week in a shed to air dry properly and then once I was happy that the smell of the varnish had faded, I would give it to the hamster to use. But I would probably still have issues with it, checking it all the time for any chewed edges.
