It is very unwise for anyone inexperienced to breed hamsters. One might think that breeding hamsters is as simple as putting a male and female together, HOWEVER, that could not be farther from the truth. Many, many factors have to be just right in order for a litter to be bred properly. Otherwise, the female may die and/or the babies will likely die. There are far too many factors for me to tell you.

I have been breeding hamsters for years and I can tell you truthfully: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BREED YOUR OWN HAMSTERS! It is very cruel to experiment with the lives of your hamsters. They always suffer.

I researched and studied the subject for months before I felt confident enough to start. I travelled hundreds of miles to buy breeding quality hamsters from experienced breeders. Hamsters purchased from a pet store should NEVER be used for breeding.

IF YOU LOVE HAMSTERS, YOU WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO BREED THEM!

Christine is right. It is a big undertaking and a big responsibility. You must be able to find homes for all the babies as there are too many unwanted animals in rescue. You must be able to research and have guidance on correct breeding practice and have the time and money to raise babies properly. Breeding from hamsters with an unknown background is risky too for both parent and pups.
Enjoy the hammie you have for now.
