Not really. Hamsters vary a lot in what they like to 'play' with. They are not like people who will spend a long time playing with a new toy. They tend to like things they can do something that is natural for a hamster with such as tunnels, boxes with holes in they can climb in and out of and things they can chew on. The things that cost nothing are often the best liked such as toilet roll tubes and boxes. Be resourceful and make fun mazes and things for him to climb over and explore while you supervise closely. The rest of the time he will be happy doing hamstery things like wheel running, eating in bed, moving his store etc.

Default Toys

I find that generally, hamster toys from the pet stores are not necessarily interesting to hamsters. It is true that hamsters lose interest very quickly.

The ONLY hamster toy that I find my hamsters LOVE is the rolling ball. I have 5 balls and my hamsters literally beg to get into a ball every night. I have 10 Syrians so 5 have to wait their turn and it drives them crazy to have to wait! You just have to make sure that the hamster is safe from stairs and being accidently kicked across the room. AND be sure not to leave the hamster in the ball for more than a half an hour. It will need to wee and have a drink since they get so hot from all the exercise.

Other than that my hamsters get small boxes that crackers come in and they LOVE to chew them up. I have watched my hamsters chew those boxes into tiny bits with great enthusiasm! They really are a necessity for any hamster. They chewing is great for keeping their teeth trimmed. Just make sure there isn't any metal staples or anything that the hamster could hurt himself on.

If you are very energetic you could build little houses and ramps and teether totters out of wooden popsicle sticks and non toxic glue. I have done that too.

Have fun!
